THE VENUE “We decided to hire out a bar and just have a party. We wanted a central location for guests and we didn’t want any (or very little) travel time between ceremony and reception. So I got to work researching online. I had heard of Hadiqa before but had never been, we reached out to see if they were available, Lee and I went and had dinner there one night and we never looked back. The place was amazing, the staff, the food, the aesthetic of the venue. It was a no brainer.”

THE INSPO “When I realised our nine-year anniversary fell on a Saturday, I floated the idea with Lee of booking our wedding on that date and we both thought it was the perfect. I had always wanted a wedding in the cooler months, and envisioned a long sleeve dress as I’m just not a summer person. The only creative directive we gave our stylist and florist, Eden from Freakhaus was, ‘dark and moody with a pop of colour’, we let here do the rest she nailed it.”

MEMORABLE MOMENT “About half an hour before I was due to walk down the aisle, my sister walked into my room with her newborn son. She had given birth three days prior – I didn’t want any pressure on her to be there as recovery for her and baby was priority. But seeing her beautiful face in my room was magic. I felt very privileged to have her there.”

I’M SO GLAD WE DIDN’T… “Have a bridal party, a first dance or a wedding cake. I’ve been a bridesmaid for all of my sisters and realise how chaotic it is managing opinions, tastes etc. and I wanted our wedding to be relaxed and stress-free. I also wanted my sisters to have an opportunity to just turn up, wear what they want and not worry about anything else. (they all thanked me separately later).”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Sandie and Mary, who were our photographers [from West Creative]. We walked around the city chatting and shooting like we were old friends catching up. They made us feel so warm and comfortable. We are just so happy with how the pictures turned out. Nothing cringeworthy or corny. Just really lovely, genuine, happy photos. The best!”
