After a decade together, Kate – an interior designer – and Luke Parker, North Melbourne AFL star, decided to make it official in one of the most breathtaking locations imaginable: Orpheus Island – a remote, luxury resort off the coast of Queensland.

“It was either going to be a 400-person wedding or a very intimate wedding,” they share. “We opted for the latter and could not be happier with that decision.”

What followed was a dreamlike celebration with just 35 of their closest family and friends, which the one and only Janneke Storm captured to perfection.

THE VENUE

“I wanted to have that holiday style of wedding. I began looking at beautiful properties and seeing if we could have our wedding at a house. On my deep dive search, I remember friends of ours had holidayed on Orpheus Island – with their family and raved about the experience. I looked into it and thought this would be a once in a lifetime experience. Weddings are always going to be expensive but to be able to treat people to a holiday whilst also getting married, we were completely down for this idea. We went and visited Orpheus the year before getting married and were so happy with our decision.”

THE DRESS

“My dress was designed and made by Jess from J.Andreatta. She is such a beautiful person who I have worked with prior to this and I knew when I was getting married one day that she would be the one to make my dress. I never considered going anywhere else.”

THE INSPO

“We asked our guests to dress in white. With such a small number of guests, I thought it would look so beautiful on the day but also in our photos. Although, I did have a lot of the girls asking me if I was certain they could wear white to our wedding haha. The first thing that came out of my mouth as I walked down the aisle and saw everyone was, ‘You all look so beautiful!’ Being a designer, these little details genuinely made me happy.”

FAVE DETAILS

“My absolute favourite thing from our wedding day, apart from marrying Luke (obviously) was the flowers from Townsville Flower Market and table setting. I had imagined this long table, sitting perfectly on Orpheus island with fairy lights and nature surrounding it and it could not have turned out more perfect. It takes a bit to take my breath away and this truly did. The staff on Orpheus had little break out sections with lounges and umbrellas and later in the night a fire pit. It was actually a dream to me.”

STANDOUT VENDORS

“My florist (Townsville Flower Market), photographer (Janneke Storm ), makeup artist (Michelle Cox Makeup) & hairdresser (Lily & Co) went above and beyond. My wedding was on a remote island which means they traveled in for the day and then straight out. Lily & Mish came from Sydney, Janneke stayed up all night with my family and the florists had to bring every flower over by boat traveling at about 4am. These women are incredible. We were so lucky.”

A WORD OF ADVICE

“I wasn’t able to have a videographer at our wedding because we didn’t have any room left for them to be able to sleep on the island. So I really wished I had asked a family member to set up their phone and film the wedding. I asked all guests to not use phones and be present but luckily one of my brothers doesn’t listen so I do have a small video walking down the aisle which I was SO happy about the next day.”
