Like in life, when it came to their wedding, Kate, a passionate graphic designer and Lachlan, a construction project manager took DIY to new heights.
Set in the serene natural beauty at Growwild in the Southern Highlands, the hands-on couple designed the stationary, hand-painted all the signage, built the funkiest dessert donut wall (a la Krispy Kreme), and with the help of a friend, did the early morning flower market run and floral arrangements.
They also spent the entire week prior to the wedding setting up, driving back and forth between Sydney and Alpine and “making it all happen,” in the proud words of the pair, adding “it made sense to put our skills to use as much as possible, and not only save the pennies, but also know that everything had our own personal touch and was made with lots of hard work and love.”
Even Dean Snushall their photographer turned “great mate” lent some beautiful décor for the day. Another hero vendor moment was when two weeks before the wedding, Kate fell in love with the newly released Made With Love Bridal Sienna dress – different to the one that had been purchased and tailored to fit over the course of the previous six months.
“I knew it was going to be a seriously long shot to get my hands on Sienna. I emailed Kelly at Made With Love and explained my bridezilla predicament, and incredibly she replied straight away and explained she had an extra made up in my size ready to send to an overseas supplier. She intercepted the delivery and had the dress to me in just three days.”
“It was the biggest fluke and was meant to be! The moment I slipped into Sienna on the day of the wedding I felt like a million dollars and knew I’d made the best, albeit craziest decision!”
Coming from two laid-back Aussie families, the couple kept everything quite simple, knowing that once the venue was filled with all their friends and family there would be so much “colour, happiness and partying to fill the gaps”.
So celebrant Gail McGuckin awaited the lovers at the end of the aisle as Kate’s grandmother shouted praises and made the crowd laugh, and the pair sealed the deal after five years together with a lifetime to look forward to ahead.
