Joanna and Richard aren’t just a couple of sweet smiles. These two have history. Together for twelve and a half years (since they were 16 years old!), this duo settled on a casual affair to celebrate. With pops of burgundy throughout, it was all about nature, outdoor boogies and their pup Whiskey, of course. An M.J. Bale suit and a sleek embellished gown polished off the relaxed yet chic vibe. FAVOURITE DETAILS “I suppose my favourite element was the red velvet accessories. It started from one find (the shoes) and somehow I managed to get all of my accessories to fit in, including Richard’s tie! Also the flower crown we got for our little pup, Whiskey. It was so lovely to include her on the day and get a little family portrait!”
THE DRESS “It took quite a while to find my dress. After having no real idea of what I wanted, I found inspiration in bridal magazines (hello Hello May!) and got a fair idea of what I wanted. I didn’t see anything that had every element I wanted though and ended up taking my mum to Sydney for some hardcore dress shopping. Still finding nothing, the lady at the last shop said a dress that was almost what I wanted was created by a designer in Perth [Marquise Bridal], who did bespoke pieces. So we got in touch, went to see her and explained what I wanted. She was happy to oblige so she started sourcing the lace and we went from there. She had several samples to choose from and didn’t rest until I was happy. The whole experience was really fluid, the dress morphed and changed as we went along and the ever understanding ladies were happy to adapt. The veil was a last-minute addition and the whole dress came together perfectly! I really felt awesome having a one-of-a-kind dress that was all mine, and it had every element I wanted (even skin coloured [and seemingly invisible] netting through the front and sides, did ya notice?).”
LITTLE LOL “My dad tried to make me late! He thought I should be 15 minutes late to make everyone nervous. I had to remind him we had a strict schedule if we wanted photos by the beach and lots of time to party too!”
A WORD OF ADVICE “ HAVE A PLAN B! We really got caught out with the rain. We were being optimistic and the weather forecast said there would only be rain in the morning. Boy, was it wrong. It rained practically all night and our dance floor wasn’t undercover. It all turned out okay, everyone was soaked but living it up for a few hours on the dance floor, although we did feel a bit soggy by the end of it. It was probably the most memorable part of the wedding.”
WE’RE GLAD WE… “Splurged on a good photographer and a videographer. We get to relive the moments through film whenever we like, and I think it’s worth paying for these things, they’re the only parts you can keep with you forever.”
