Breaking news: We’ve found the Queens of DIY. Yep, those phenom native flowers are courtesy of bride Jessie, then all stationery and signage was created by the clever couple together. And didn’t they do an absolutely fab job? Now we know that navigating the world of wedding styling isn’t easy, so you’re probably wondering how they managed to hit it out of the park. Thankfully, we have all the deets from Jessie and Nikki firsthand, alongside some pretty incred snaps from the uber-talented Translucent Photography, so keep scrolling…
THE INSPO “We wanted a modern industrial theme with lots of white and flowers to compliment the big white space. We wanted it to be relaxed with lots of different spaces for people to play games, take photos, have drinks, dance and eat together.”
FAVE DEETS “I was really proud of the florals. Myself (Jessie) and one of our wedding party drove to the Sydney Flower Markets. We brought [the flowers] all the way back to Canberra and did them all ourselves. The florist who was doing the arbour dropped out last minute so we had to add this to the plan and make our own. They ended up being exactly what I wanted and really complimented the space.”
JESSIE’S ‘FIT “I always thought I would wear a suit, but I couldn’t find the perfect one. I ended up booking a few dress fittings, but then I found this gorgeous suit from Reiss and it was in it’s final stock. I got it shipped from Europe immediately. It was perfect and didn’t even need to be tailored, it was meant to be.”
NIKKI’S ‘FIT “I always found it hard to find suits that fit me as suits are normally made for men, [however] the whole experience with Isadora Nim was incredible. The tailor, Peter, was so helpful and friendly and made every step so easy. The suit ended up being incredible. I was worried that I wouldn’t feel good on the day but the suit fit me so perfectly, I felt so content.”
DIY “Due to our limited budget we did lots of DIY. I (Jessie) spent months before melting candles on old wine bottles we had collected. We made our own shots for people to do on entrance to our ceremony. Again, the florals were all done by us. We thrifted vases and painted them to match our colour scheme. The set up at the venue the day before was all done by us and our close friends and family. As much work as it was, it was worth it to DIY a lot of the decorations, we couldn’t be happier with the aesthetics of the day.”
A WORD OF ADVICE “Have dates with each other to sit down and make decisions. Make it lighthearted over drinks and food. It gives you allocated time to discuss everything so your whole life isn’t just wedding planning. Also, no matter how much you plan, it is always going to be hectic and things will go wrong. As long as you get married nothing else will matter.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Lucy from Translucent Photography was absolutely the best person we worked with. She went above and beyond to make sure she captured exactly what we wanted and make us feel comfortable. The photos are stunning and encapsulated the day perfectly.”
