An autumn wedding at its best… Just look at those red leaves! Jess and Joel were married amongst the trees and we’re in love with the setting, not to mention that Rue De Seine gown (from The Bridal Atelier, of course), those Grew & Co rings and even the wet weather. “The rain gradually became heavier, so much so that just before we said our vows, we were absolutely soaked,” explains the bride. “I 100% loved it.” We’re with you Jess. And thanks to Olguin Photography, we think it made for some pretty incredible photos too…
THE VENUE “We sat down one night and stalked a bunch of weddings from you guys at Hello May to get a few ideas. Somerley House was the first and only place we looked into! Nadine greeted us in her gumboots, with home-made jams from one of her fruit trees, and took us for a stroll around her beautiful grounds. We fell in love with it immediately.”
THE VIBE “Joel’s always described our general style as ‘simple, yet elegant,’ so this is something we wanted to play with for the wedding. We also both love autumn, so it was an easy decision to set the date set for when the trees had their beautiful autumnul colours. That had a flow on effect for the bridal party. I chose a sustainable, vintage clothing brand- Christy Dawn– and the girls chose their own dresses. The colour against our forest aisle was one of the most commented on things from our day.”
DIY “We picked up bunches of fresh flowers from Jonima Flowers on our way from Sydney to the Highlands. The night before the wedding, my bridesmaids, mum and I put together our bouquets. I was so stoked with how they turned out.”
THE DRESS “I hate shopping! And the designer I initially went into The Bridal Atelier for looked pretty awful on me. I tried on some dresses from Rue De Seine and they were having a trunk show the following week for their Moonlight Magic collection. As soon as I tried on my dress, I had the moment of knowing it was ‘the one’, which I still laugh at today, as I was admittedly a bit of a wedding cynic. It had daisies and ferns mixed into the lace and the shape just complimented my body so well. It was a super lovely experience.”
REFERENCES “We found Somerley House on Hello May and they had their own catering vendors they work with, which was easy. Merinda Richardson, our celebrant was just a Google search- what a win! We also found Alex of Olguin Photography through Hello May [see more of his real wedding work here] and loved the moody feel of his photos. I found Michelle Mae via The Future Mrs and we were so stoked with everyone who was involved.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Sebastian and Nadine from Somerley House were like old friends the moment we met them. Our photographer, Alex- we’re both quite awkward people at the best of times- let alone in front of a camera, on our wedding day- but Alex just made us laugh and feel so comfortable to be around. He sent through our sneak peaks the following Monday and the final album in about three weeks!”
