It’s easy to loose perspective when planning a wedding – people get caught up in all the nitty gritty details and forget what it’s really all about. For Jess and Ben however, a few unfortunate events kept them on the straight and narrow. “In the months leading up to the wedding, we had a ridiculous amount of disasters – amongst other things my grandma had a leg amputated, my mum had a heart attack, and our house got destroyed in a hail storm. While not exactly funny, these events definitely took the pressure off the wedding planning and made us realise why we were getting married – to be together. Not for the table decorations or seating plan.”
The result was a simple, yet magical day made possible by a number of helping hands. “Ben’s father and brother in law built a bar for drinks, the photobooth backdrop, a stand for the pinata, plus many other projects to make the night amazing. The biggest DIY project, however, was definitely the garden. Ben’s mum had the garden looking absolutely immaculate, and it was a total joy even just to spend time there”, explains Jess.
Held at Glenhope BnB in northern New South Wales, the property’s gorgeous natural charm inspired their earthy colour palette while their photographer James Day had a ball capturing Jess and Ben flirting beneath the gorgeous afternoon light. “It is such an incredible property – gorgeous country gardens, beautiful alpacas and stunning sunsets”, says Jess who looked just as lovely in her Zimmermann dress.
It was a beautiful day, that as Jess had set out to achieve from the get go, was all about their friends and family. “Don’t go overboard. Do what you can. Colour schemes don’t matter, as long as everybody has plenty to eat and drink. Remember – it’s a party!”
