After meeting while working together at an architectural firm, Jess and Alastair admit it wasn’t love at first sight, but there was definitely an attraction. A shared love “for Friday knock-off drinks and the dance floor” meant the pair went on to spend quite a bit of time together, and from there a solid relationship grew. They married at the gorg Jimbour House in country Queensland’s Darling Downs – over three hours west of Brissie, and Hello May gal pal, the super-talented Bonnie Jenkins was on-hand to capture all the magic. Scroll down for a squiz and hear from the happy newlyweds…
THE VENUE “I knew I wanted to get married out in the country for a number of reasons – both my grandfathers were country boys, I’d always enjoyed going out to the country with mates, I’d worked out west in Toowoomba/Oakey, Jess and I both love going to the wineries and we got engaged in the country too, so it’s a special place for both of us. We only visited a few venues, but I had originally sent a list of venues to Jess and didn’t tell her which one was my favourite, as didn’t want her to be influenced. In the end, she loved the same venue as me, which was Jimbour House.”
FAVE DEETS “The table arrangements at the reception in the airport hangar. It was presented so eloquently, and had such a warm and welcoming feel, which is exactly what we wanted our guests to feel on the day. It was exciting to get a sneak peak of this set-up prior to the reception commencing to see what we had envisioned come to life.”
DIY “We designed our own invitations, ceremony booklets and signage. The ceremony booklets were also hand stitched by Alastair’s mother Anne.”
A WORD OF ADVICE “Enjoy the journey of putting the wedding together, no matter how stressful it can become at times. Make sure to take it all in as best you can, as the day will go so fast.”
STANDOUT VENDOR “We wanted to use a photographer who had been to Jimbour before, that’s how we found Bonnie Jenkins. We loved how she captured people, architecture, and landscape so well.”
WE’RE GLAD WE… “Learned a first dance, as it was a lot of fun and it’s something we will look back on fondly.”
