Jas and Lucien have been together for 11 years, but were best friends for a long time before they got together, they tell us, “lying to ourselves and everyone else that we weren’t in love. We finally got together and having already seen the good the bad and the ugly it all went pretty smoothly for a decade.”
But things like global pandemics tend to put what’s important into perspective, they share, “and we decided we wanted to make it official.” Enter the amazing stationery gurus Jem & I, who helped this pair send out a bunch of beautiful invites for the big day – which was “booked entirely around the availability of certain iconic Melbourne DJs and a string quartet”, they spill. “We started at the dancefloor and worked backwards. Cliché we know, but we wanted the day to just be a party.”
Cliche? Nah, we’re digging that vibe hard – not to mention the epic three-tiered cake by Ladybird Cakes (two flaves, Nutella, and Citrus Lemon Myrtle – yes please). Motta Weddings did the usual stellar job snapping the whole thing and we know you’re all about the pics, so go forth and give your peepers a treat!
THE VENUE “Glasshaus jumped out immediately, but all their spaces were booked – that is, except for what was at the time a building site, soon to be their new venue Glasshaus Brücke. We did a walkthrough site inspection with the co-owner Nada and the bones were epic – a massive double-fronted Victorian, completely open plan, and broken up into two distinct sections, upstairs and down, with a grand staircase linking the two. It was the first venue (building site?!) we’d seen but we fell in love with the potential and booked it that day, trusting it would all come together.”
DIY “Yes! So I [Lucien] had made some rings with my best man about five years earlier for a bit of fun and planned to make my wedding ring with his help, too. About two weeks before the wedding, Jasmine reminded me that I should probably get onto that as it tends to be a pretty crucial part of the proceedings. We managed not to hurt ourselves and ended up making a beautiful pure silver ring with J&L stamped into the top.”
REFERENCES “We went onto Hello May and reached out to one photographer we liked – they, of course, were booked, and thankfully so because they suggested we reach out to Alex Motta of Motta Weddings, who was just the best fit for us possible.”
MEMORABLE MOMENT “Jasmine falling down the stairs. Hands down, without a doubt, the most memorable entrance of any wedding I’ve been to. The collective gasp as she fell (luckily quite close to the bottom of the enormous staircase) and then the roar of the crowd and she sprung up like a cartoon with her bouquet held triumphantly in the air like some kind of superwoman about to take flight. Her veil was her undoing. It snagged on the stairs, she took her one free hand off the banister to adjust it and bang, she was gone. I got what I thought was an impressive round of applause when I came down the stairs but the venue exploded when Jasmine completed her trip to the altar.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “All of them. Alex, our photographer from Motta Weddings, is a pocket rocket, I have no idea how he got as many magical moments as he did, I swear he had clones running around or possesses the ability to teleport. Katie at Fourside, from the tasting to the attention she gave us on the night, and their amazing range of vegan/vego and low-fodmap dishes. Our vego guests commented they’re usually an afterthought but felt spoilt for choice. Our celebrant Megan, of Marry Me Megan, was an absolute master, handling everything we threw at her with humour and grace.”
