Simon, originally from the UK, fell head over heels for Hannah and her Aussie charm, proposing in Paris on their second anniversary. Deciding to have their wedding on their property in country New South Wales, it was agreed that Simon and his list of British guests wouldn’t be forgotten. “We had a bug stand with everything from tweezers and tea tree oil to Aeroguard to protect everyone (especially the visiting Brits!) from any bugs that might have been around. Simon’s aunty wore Doc martin gum boots to protect herself”, says Hannah, far less afraid of the flies than her daunting DIY list.
Unable to pick a theme she tells us, “Eventually we decided to just combine them all! We planned to have an outdoor white wedding ceremony in the Aussie bush, a vintage Paris picnic in the paddock, and a tipi for our wedding reception. It sounds bizarre but seemed to work out in the end.”From there, it was all operational – hiring tipis from Katalane, furniture from Crab Apple Vintage, stationery from Not on the High Street and most importantly organising Joseph of Sarkodie Photography to capture their day.
Their DIY checklist also included folding cranes on vintage sheet music, sewing sheet music hearts, designing a personal stamp, fabric invitations, canvas favour bags, wooden menu holders, dream catchers, making wooden signs and swings, folding confetti cones and creating a volleyball court, just to name a few. Later, with live music by Musicquarium, a star performance by Simon and a poetry reading by Hannah, it was a lovely day indeed.
