For Hannah and Jared, love was truly in the air – 30,000 feet up, in fact. The lovebirds just happened to be neighbours on a long-haul flight. As Jared explains, “After 20 hours of flying and a six-hour layover in Singapore, I had her hooked.” We thought that only happened in the movies! Leaning into their “wacky sense of humour”, rockstar-style, and affection for a good sandwich Hannah and Jared’s Melbourne wedding was a vibe and a half. The couple of 10 years told us that it was fun to keep the details a surprise for their guests, and that they were glad to have celebrated in a way that felt authentically them. “It wasn’t a wedding that people expected, but we’ve been told by many that it was the wedding that people needed,” they share.

WEDDING VENUE “One day, when running late to lunch, we parked in front of The Altar Electric. The tinsel, disco vibes, and neon lights chose us.”
FAVE DETAILS “Doughnuts and sandwiches. After receiving comments such as ‘You’re not really feeding the guest sandwiches, are you?’”, we did it anyway. Because WE LOVE GODDAMN SANDWICHES! Doughnuts are pretty rad, also. Guests are still raving about it, and many have developed an addiction to Saul’s Sandwiches.”
DIY “There were a lot of DIY projects. Our house looked like a craft box from the ‘90s. We made our ring boxes out of Lego and pompoms. Hannah made each guest personalised friendship bracelets, [decorated] the cake, [made] wedding invites, and [arranged the flowers]. Hannah also made my wedding band. She glammed up my sketch of what my ideal wedding ring should look like and turn it into reality.”
BRIDAL FIT “My wedding suit was custom-made by Kay Elizabeth. She was a magician from the get-go. I was never one to dream about my wedding and, therefore, started from scratch. [From] Pinterest stalking and an extensive mood board that had no cohesion, Kay was able to adapt the inspiration to create something that was perfectly ‘me’.”
LITTLE LOL “Our cake plans fell through two days before the wedding. We always joked about how good it would be to use Coles mud cakes as our wedding cake, and when all bets were off, that’s exactly what we did. Hannah’s artistic nature and love for last-minute projects kicked in, and she decorated our cake. The cake was never cut (we forgot about it). It ended up being a very pretty stand for the epic cake topper gifted to us.”
