This is the story of two doctors who met while at uni. “Ben was the year above me and my anatomy tutor when I started university!” They’ve now been an item for seven years and tied the knot in this awesome wedding seven months after getting engaged. “I knew the longer I had to deliberate on decisions, the harder the planning would be,” says the bride. Lens lady (with talent to boot), Katie Harmsworth, was there to make the memories last, so scroll down for all her pics and our chat with the couple, of course…
THE VENUE “We both love the outdoors and wanted a marquee wedding where we could enjoy the amazing vistas that make this corner of Australia so special. Finding a venue in the Barossa wine region was a real bonus for our interstate and overseas guests. We had quite a large bridal party (six bridesmaids and six groomsmen) and loved the idea that we could stay at the homestead together for the weekend. On the morning of the wedding, we all had breakfast together before the girls went off for hair and makeup and the boys spent the day exploring the property on ATVs and lounging around the pool.”
THE VIBE “We really loved the idea of a black-tie wedding in a rural setting. It set the scene for a special occasion but with a laid back vibe.”
FAVE DETAILS “The cake was made by one of my close childhood friends which was really special (and so delicious). We also prepared a little glass bottle of ‘dance potion’ for each guest which was sneakily potent and really helped kick off the dance floor!”
DIY “I designed our wedding invitations (with a hand-drawn sketch of the homestead) and personalised the place settings for our guests. The ‘dance potions’ were also a fun personalised touch, too.”
KEY VENDORS “Many of our vendors were recommended to us by Kingsford Homestead. We found Ash Gale initially on the Hello May website, then confirmed his brilliance in person when he played at our local pub five months out from the wedding. We came across Katie Harmsworth’s wedding photography online and instantly fell in love with her work.
WE’RE GLAD WE… “Had a big bridal party – it was so much fun.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Special mention to; the venue owners at Kingsford Homestead, Leanne and Stefan – the ultimate hosts. Photographer, Katie Harmsworth – an absolute legend. Caterer, Stuart and team at Handmade Catering (Stuart became our unofficial wedding planner! Always the voice of reason and a phenomenal chef). Musician, Ash Gale (we had the best of both worlds – incredible acoustic guitar/ singing for the ceremony and start of the reception, evolving into DJ for the dance floor) and florist, Brianna Kaye at Leaf and Lotus (particularly blown away by her bridal and bridesmaids bouquets).”
