Georga and Calen met at high school and, as they tell us, “there were fireworks from the start, and despite a few false starts we always came back to each other. Now, we’ve been together for almost eight years after we really started our life as a couple during the first year of uni.”

These guys pulled together some seriously phenom vendors to put on the most epic big day, from the musical stylings of the Baker Boys Band to the bloody delish noms provided by Sabre Catering and Events. Not surprisingly, Georga and Calen couldn’t get enough of their incredible venue, Spring Bay Mill, gushing over the amazing staff there. “Alison, the events manager, was an absolute dream to work with. The venue truly went above and beyond for us.”

They also couldn’t say enough wonderful things about Sophie Sullivan Photography, who delivered the goods with a gorgeous collection of snaps from the day.

THE THEME “I wanted the day to be timeless and classic. The theme was black and white with an element of neutral tones. The florals were mostly white with some greenery and neutral tones to incorporate the beautiful surrounding of bushland contrasted with the ocean. We also asked our guests to dress for a sophisticated soiree in subtle tones.”

THE VENUE “I had always wanted to get married on the East Coast of Tasmania overlooking the water. However I had a slight complex where I didn’t want to be married somewhere other people had been married before. We came across Spring Bay Mill after viewing a few other venues that just weren’t quite right for what we wanted. We met Robbie, the operations manager, at our first visit and his enthusiasm and passion for what was to come for the venue really got us excited. The venue was undergoing some construction but we saw the vision that was going to unfold and we knew it was going to be perfect. I, of course, also hoped we would be one of the first weddings at Spring Bay Mill as I knew it was an up-and-coming venue. It turned out that we were indeed the first wedding at the newly refurbished Spring Bay Mill.”

FAVE DETAILS “The catering – the food was delicious and there was plenty of it. Sabre Catering and Events slow-cooked beef and lamb from my family farm and there was nothing better than sitting down, totally relaxed after our speeches, to eat some of the amazing food we had planned for the evening. The champagne tower was executed to perfection by Joseph Burton Wines and it was so much fun as our first pour on the deck with the sun shining. The florals by The Floral Criteria really brought everything together – seeing the flower stands at the ceremony and the florals on the tables at the reception was a huge highlight. And of course, the photography – Sophie Sullivan our amazing photographer, captured absolutely every little detail and moment of the day, which we will be forever grateful for.”

THE DRESS “We can be a little limited for options in Tasmania which worried me when I first started to look for a dress. I had planned and researched a trip to Sydney with my mum and sister but unfortunately wasn’t able to go due to border restrictions. I decided to take a huge gamble and buy my Pallas Couture wedding dress off an Instagram photo after just a few quick measurements taken. It was definitely meant to be, the dress fitted perfectly! I was totally in love with it.”

MEMORABLE MOMENT “Walking down the aisle, looking at Calen and the beautiful setting. The suspense on the short drive to the ceremony was killing me, all I wanted to do was get there to marry my amazing man, I was ready! When I arrived the sun was shining, the champagne tower was glistening and I could hear the beautiful sound of our acoustic duo.”

LITTLE LOL “About five minutes before we were due to leave for the ceremony, one of the bridesmaid’s shoes broke. And I mean really broke, she couldn’t walk in it, the whole supporting strap was broken. With no other suitable shoes in sight, there was a moment of chaos until one of the other bridesmaids went into action and taped the shoe to her foot with the last bit of boobie tape we had left!”

WE’RE GLAD WE… “We had a surprise for our guests that included moving from the wonderful Banksia Room, where our reception was held, to an industrial Tin Shed originally used as part of the former wood chip mill. In the shed, we had a full band on stage – Baker Boys Band – and that’s where the party really began! While the idea of a third location originally scared us, we are so glad we did it.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “We find it hard to choose a standout vendor, as we had the most amazing and capable vendors. But if we had to choose a few, they would be Robbie and Alison from Spring Bay Mill, Sophie Sullivan Photography and Bec from Sabre Catering and Events.”

The team that helped make Georga and Calen’s day a special one are absolute pros and if you’re feeling their vibe, you should defs give them a shout.
