If you’ve already read our Ed’s letter in issue eight (otherwise available online here) you’d know that when it comes to weddings, we often think the best approach is to K.I.S.S (Keep It Simple Stupid). Emily and Lloyd decided early on that they could do without all the bells and whistles, choosing instead to opt for a low fuss affair that had everything they needed to be happy – friends, family and some incredibly cute kids.
“Having so many people we love from our past and present was the most amazing thing of all”, says Emily. Held at Kihilla Retreat in the beautiful Blue Mountains, there were of course a few indulgences – like homemade ice blocks, a locally inspired menu courtesy of Red Pepper Catering and legendary wedding photographer Bek and Phil of Heart and Colour.
“Bek and Phil delivered on everything we wanted and more and did it with such ease, laughter and fun. We loved having them by our side on our day, as it just felt like we were with friends.” Easily one of the moment memorable parts of their day however, was when Emily made her way down the aisle to a song Lloyd had composed in her full-length Lover gown.
“He was at home playing the piano when he made up a really beautiful tune. He then picked up the guitar and played in on that. That night he and our friend Matt played the song together. I recorded them and sent it to our friend Heather who plays violin, she then came over and picked it up on the violin. It bought tears to my eyes, I fell in love with it and then it became the processional song, played by Liam (our MC), Heather and my cousin Jack.”
It was certainly a sentimental day and one that Emily wishes she could have invited everyone to. “Guest lists are probably the hardest part”, she warns. “I have no wisdom on how to make it easier, just be prepared.”
