Planning their ‘I do’s, Ed and El spent a lot of time imagining the day from a guests’ perspective. It was paramount to the pair that their loved ones be comfortable (“there was plenty of chairs, and shade”), well-fed (“we got all the extra drinks and food packages”), and have a damn good time (“so we got a brass band and a fun celebrant”). Sounds like a winning recipe to us!
Aesthetically, the day was subtly vintage-infused, with the bride’s ‘60s-esque frock and the couple’s old-school cab-style wedding car. It was all backdropped by stunning Mosman views (ideal for showing off Sydney to overseas guests).
Below Ed and El zap us back to that beautiful Autumn day, sharing favourite details and standout vendors, including Across the Forest who were on photography duties.
STUNNING SYDNEY VIEWS
“Originally we wanted a low cost venue and to put most of our budget towards good catering… Eventually Athol Hall came onto our radar, but we assumed it would be out of our price range because it was such an incredible venue with amazing views. After we did a tour and got an idea of pricing we were very surprised by the cost. We had a lot of people fly in from the UK for our wedding and it just made sense for us to pick such an incredible venue with iconic views. It would really show off Sydney and make it extra memorable for our guests.”
AN AUSSIE/FRENCH CHAMPAGNE TOWER
“Our flowers from Japonica, hanging from the ceiling, were absolutely incredible. They filled/decorated the space well, and it also meant the tables weren’t completely cluttered. The cake we went for was something a bit modest looking but iconic. Our Champagne tower We absolutely loved! We spent a long time trying to determine what bubbles we wanted. We really wanted it to be Australian bubbles, but we just couldn’t decide on one that was suitable for the big day. Until we found Penfold’s Champagne. Made by the Australian winemakers but over in France in Champagne with their grapes. We thought it was a really cool way to keep the Champagne Tower, Champagne, but still Australian.”
CELEBRATIONS ON THE LAWN
“Seeing all our guests chatting and drinking on the lawn, everyone just having a good time as the brass band played in the background – it felt like all our plans had come together.”
DREAM WEDDING TEAM
“From the first minute of the day our photographer Anton from Across the Forest was so calm and collected. He was a lot of fun to spend time with and his confidence was really reassuring. He knew exactly how to work with us to get the best photos. He was really good at pulling us away at the right moments and then leaving us to enjoy the day. Anton surprised us during the evening of our wedding with some prints of some photos he took earlier in the day. The photos were incredible and we were absolutely gobsmacked how he was able to shoot all day and somehow print photos during it. Our Celebrant and MC, Zoe, was absolutely incredible… Not only was she an incredible celebrant, but as an MC she really helped tie in the events of the day together. Ushering people over to their seats, warming our guests up with some stories and a bit of banter. Helping Anton coordinate a massive photo with all of our guests. While also managing all the other vendors behind the scenes for us and making sure timings were perfect. The Band! The brass band were absolute legends. We requested a few songs for them to cover and they did such an amazing job. They really added the excitement and fun of a brass band and added that extra magic and fun to the day.”
