Ebonnie and Sunny’s Melbourne wedding spanned two days and was captured perfectly by the amazing Kinship By Kristy. The newlyweds incorporated tradition in their own special way celebrating Sunny’s heritage in a Sikh ceremony on day one and then walking down the aisle together, wearing Luv Bridal and Bared Footwear, to say ‘I Do’ with the help of one of our fave-ever celebrants Nat Sproal on day two. It was a vibrant, love-filled celebration with a tonne of dancing and colour. We can’t wait for you to see, guys. Start your scroll…
THE INSPO “The overall vibe we were going for was a modern black tie party. We wanted to honour both cultures and include the best bits from both to create a fusion. On the Saturday we had a Sikh ceremony with our families and closest friends, then on the Sunday We had a western ceremony with a fusion reception at The Prince Deck. We both are not fans of traditional weddings or being the centre of attention, so we wanted to have a celebration without many of the formalities. For the décor and colour palette I wanted it to be modern and moody with bright florals as the focus. For the Indian wedding I wore hot pink, and red is the traditional bridal colour, so I carried these colours across to the Western wedding in the floral colour palette.”
THE DRESSES “Sunny’s family took me shopping for the Indian dress and took me to Rajashree Bridal Studio. I was blown away by how incredibly intricate these dresses are, the bright colours and jewels and also how heavy they are! We knew a bright colour would suit me best so we very quickly decided on my hot pink Lehenga. I felt like a true princess on the day! After shopping for the Indian outfit the white dresses seemed comparatively boring! The Raegan by Evie Young from Luv Bridal was one of the first dresses I tried on but I was quite set on 3D flowers initially so I didn’t really properly consider it. When I couldn’t find anything with 3D flowers that I felt comfortable in I tried on the Raegan again and got ‘the feeling’ and knew it was the one! There is so much pressure put on finding the perfect dress but in the end I chose the one that I felt most comfortable and like ‘me’ in and that I could party in all night.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Our photographer Kristy from Kinship By Kristy – she 100 per cent understood that we hate being the centre of attention, and managed to get stunning images without either of us doing awkward poses or feeling like we couldn’t just be in the moment. She captured the feeling of the days perfectly in her images and did an amazing job of capturing whatever unfolded naturally over both days. And Nat Sproal Celebrant absolutely delivers what she sells – non-crap weddings for legends! Zero cringe but had our guests laughing and crying all the way through the ceremony. We both hate public speaking so she helped us to do fun and entertaining vows that kept the crowd so engaged without us having to speak too much! Our guests were raving and we couldn’t have been happier with our ceremony. It had a celebratory vibe from the start and kicked off our party perfectly.”
MEMORABLE MOMENT “Our dancefloor by far was our favourite memory! We opened with an Indian Dholi (drummer) who played with our DJ, and dancing on our packed dancefloor with all of our favourite people is something we dreamed of when planning our day. It was better than our wildest dreams. Months after our wedding people are still talking about how amazing the dholi was, it was literally impossible not to be up while he was playing.”
A WORD OF ADVICE “Discuss your priorities early and try to stick to these when budgeting and planning. It is easy to get caught up with trends but it is also really important to make sure it represents you as a couple, and is not just a cookie cutter of everyone else’s wedding.”
