We have decided Michael, Courtney’s other half, is a sweet, sweet human. Why? He enlisted the help of their nieces and nephews when he popped the question, complete with a surprise engagement party to celebrate. Fast-forward over two years (thanks COVID), and they were tying the knot in the Sydney city ceremony you’ll find here. Shot by the talented Gui Jorge, no less. Scroll down for more…
LITTLE LOL “I fell pregnant the night of our engagement party/proposal so right off the bat things were never going to go as planned!”
THE VENUE “We had always wanted a warehouse vibe for the wedding and imagined the romantic and soft florals amongst the harsh industrial setting. We both love our food and Three Blue Ducks Rosebery does food exceptionally well and had many events and weddings held there prior so the process and event management was great. So for us, it ticked all of the boxes. We also loved the idea of having the reception in a restaurant as one big extended family dinner as we have family dinner with Court’s family every Saturday night.”
FAVE DEETS “Our daughter, Millie, is a massive Pop’s girl on both sides so when it came time for her to walk down the aisle with my niece who was our other flower girl she refused to let go of her Pop’s hand. That meant she walked down the aisle between Court and her Dad and he was left holding onto her flower basket! She then played peek-a-boo in Court’s dress for the remainder of the ceremony and stole the show which is exactly why we loved it. If the last two years in the lead-up to the ‘I do’s’ taught us anything is that sometimes you just have to let go of control and be prepared for anything and let things happen as they may because things don’t always go to plan.”
DIY “Court did all of the stationery for the wedding including the Save the Date, Invites (twice because our date changed) and guest gift boxes for the day so it felt really nice to have a personalised handmade touch on the thank you gifts and menus for our guests. She also did the table chart and welcome signs and some personalised chocolates for the guests to take home.”
THE DRESS “Being a big-breasted and size 16 and six months after giving birth to my daughter, I was categorised as ‘plus size’ by the first two places which meant they had very limited options for me or nothing in my size to try on. I then contacted Amy from Love Marie Bridal Boutique in Camden who changed my whole experience. Amy made the whole process feel judgment free. She allowed us to shop privately in her store and try on anything we wanted to, and I never once felt like I didn’t belong there. I felt confident and beautiful and not hidden away behind layers of beads and fabric. Amy is exceptional at her job and the whole process from then was seamless.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Our amazing photographer, Gui Jorge. What a guy! My bridesmaid Mary used Gui at their wedding almost 10 years ago and I knew from that day he was who I had to have for my big day! We felt like we had known him forever and you can tell how much he loves what he does, and it shows in his work. He makes you feel so relaxed and present and has an innate ability to capture all those perfect moments nobody else notices between the big ones so beautifully.”
