Today, we’re travelling to Tallarook, Victoria, a quaint rural community where Courtney and Augus tied the knot in a country wedding. These two, with 115 loved ones in tow, “took over the town for three days” of love-filled festivities.
Highlights included the ceremony, held in Courtney’s backyard and a next-day recovery match at the local cricket club. The match was complete with custom baggy greens (for the Aussies) and Black Caps (for Angus’ Kiwi kin). “It was a tied game. Although the rules were a bit loose, it was probably the best outcome for the marriage.”
MVP (Most Valuable Photographer) went to Nikki McCrone, who the newlyweds deem “a total legend”. Scroll south and get ready for some country wedding perfection.
THE VENUE “My parents have a beautiful backyard, but I didn’t want to pressure them, so we looked at local venues. None felt ‘right’ so we pivoted back to a backyard wedding. Looking back, we can’t believe we considered anything else! It was so special to get married at my childhood home. We took over the town for three days and loved having everyone there. Our welcome drinks were at the pub, the wedding ceremony and garden party at my parent’s place, the reception at the town hall and recovery day at the cricket club.”
FAVE DETAILS “I gave a confusing brief to The Beautiful Bunch. I didn’t really know what to expect on the day, but they nailed it. The colours and florals were better than what I’d imagined. I love their ethos too – they are a not-for-profit working with young women from refugee backgrounds experiencing barriers to employment.”
MEMORABLE MOMENT “We were kind of dreading the ceremony, if we’re honest. We weren’t looking forward to having so much attention on us in an intimate moment. But our celebrant (Justin Canny) filled it with warmth and humour. Walking through the sunlit garden with my parents, seeing Angus tearing up, all our loved ones in one spot, [and hearing] Tranquility Base Duobelting out [Maple Glider’s cover of] ‘You’re Still The One’ was so special. The ceremony ended up feeling so natural and full of love –it turned out to be one of our favourite parts!”
TALK ABOUT TRADITION “We made sure all of our family members played a part – including our dog Hugo! Our mums were witnesses, dads gave speeches, two of Angus’ sisters read a poem, and his other sibling chaperoned our dog, Hugo. Our nieces were flower girls, with my brother as the flower girl wrangler (I sprung this on him that day!), and my sister-in-law made our wedding cake. Angus’ dad sang a traditional waiata (song) after his speech, which brought us to tears; it was beautiful.”
LITTLE LOL “Seeing the look on the Kiwi faces when the Nutbush came on. They said it was like the Aussies turned into dancing zombies. Turns out it isn’t popular over the ditch.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Choosing Nikki McCrone to be our wedding photographer was hands down one of the best decisions we made. She is a total legend. Not only are the photos stunning, but she was so fun and made us feel at ease. Couldn’t have asked for a better photographer and hype girl!
