You know we love a bit of a twist on tradition here at Hello May, and that’s just what bride Chloe did when she popped the question to Jimmy. “I loved that Jimmy was so keen on the prospect of flipping the gender norms,” she tells us. “I ended up proposing on an anniversary weekend away. But I hadn’t quite worked out how I would ask him, so I just sort of handed him the ring and he thought it was just a really lovely gift. After I started crying he got the idea.”
Happy tears, ofc, and the joy just kept coming. With the talented Tess Follet on board to shoot the event, and the couple the epitome of modern understated style (courtesy of M.J. Bale for him and Cathleen Jia for her), there’s plenty of inspo crammed into these here nups!
THE VENUE “We wanted something that reflected our personalities, and brought a sense of warmth and fun to the day. After trawling wedding blogs, we saw and fell in love with the Glasshaus venues. We couldn’t look past all of the lush greenery and anyone that knows us knows how much we love to be surrounded by plants.”
FAVE DETAILS “One of our favourite little details from the day was our wedding favours. We both love to cook, and we thought it fitting to share some of our favourite recipes with a little blurb on what they meant to us on a recipe card. Getting messages from friends and family in the follow-up as they’ve recreated these meals still brings a smile.”
THE SUIT “I had a very specific idea in mind: green linen. I’m also 6’4 so I assumed I would end up getting something custom, especially for my height and colour/fabric combo. After doing a bit of searching online for inspiration, I found that M.J. Bale had exactly what I wanted and the size was a perfect fit and exactly what I had envisioned.”
WE’RE GLAD WE… “One of the cool aspects of our venues is that there is a short walk between where we had the ceremony and reception but as the wedding date grew nearer, we knew there was going to be a high probability of rain. Originally we imagined we would be taking pictures all throughout the streets of Cremorne/Richmond, but the reality of the rain was sinking in. On a whim, we had a chat to a few cool-looking bars in the days prior, and were welcomed with open arms into Blacksmith Bar. The bridal party got out of the rain, had a cocktail and our photographer, Tess Follet, took some amazing shots. It was so good to have the downtime as a group after the ceremony.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Everyone commented on how awesome our photographer Tess Follet was. It was a long day and she worked her ass off. The photos were fantastic and delivered in a nicely presented box with prints, a framed photo and a custom USB with the files.”
