It was on their seven year anniversary that Alex proposed to his partner Cat. On a road-trip along The Great Ocean Road, no less. Fast forward three years and the pair would find themselves amongst the picturesque palms of Indonesia’s island paradise, Bali. The bride’s twin sis got married in the same location (we blogged Vanessa and Brendan’s nuptials not too long ago) and the talented ALMA was the photographer lucky enough to shoot both. THE VENUEVilla Tantangan was the first venue we saw when looking for my sister’s wedding. After seeing how amazing it was we started looking for our own venue about 18 months before the wedding. We flew back to Bali twice more to find alternatives but nothing compared! After asking my sister if it was ok, we also booked it in!”

THE THEME “The inspiration for our colourfully-themed wedding was the offerings (Canang sari) you see everywhere in Bali. The flowers and details were based off this.”

THE DRESS “My dress is from Lover’s White Magick collection. Alex was at a conference in Sydney and I tagged along, but quickly found myself wandering around the city. I came across the Lover store in the Strand Arcade by chance. It was the first proper wedding dress that I tried on and I loved it. The overall experience was surprisingly pretty stress free.”

REFERENCES “Our key vendors were found through our wedding planner of Hitch’d Wedding & Events after compiling a design brief she found vendors that suited our vision.”

MEMORABLE MOMENT “We hired a Volkswagen Kübelwage for pictures from Just Go To Bali. By all accounts we figured we would have a driver and we’d be in the back. However, being Bali, the driver chucked the keys to Alex and said ‘It’s all yours’. We spent the afternoon driving through the rice paddies into the sunset which was absolutely beautiful.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “Hire a wedding planner if you can, Hitch’d Wedding & Events made the whole process from start to finish an amazing journey. Another tip is to get dancing lessons for your first dance. It was one of the funnest things we did leading up to our wedding and it was a way to learn something new together. Last tip, wedding Insurance is a must especially for a destination wedding. We had so much stress leading up to the wedding with the possibility of Mt Agung erupting, it was comforting to know if it couldn’t go ahead, we were covered.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Our photographer ALMA was really cool. We met him at my sister’s wedding and got to know him a bit then so by the time it was our turn it felt like hanging out with a friend.
