Bonnie and Jason visited the beautiful Kangaroo Island at the beginning of 2020 and fell in love with the place, they tell us. o when it came to choosing a spot for their nups, it was clear what they had to do. “We had always said we would get married at my family’s property in Daylesford. However, once Jason proposed I felt a bit overwhelmed about the idea as my dad has passed away and I felt getting married up there without him, in front of a huge amount of people would be pretty hard. So, I decided we needed to travel and keep the ceremony guests small.”
These folks sorted themselves out some amazing vendors who were willing to trek across KI to make their day perfect – shoutout to Him and Her Music, who brought the tunes all over the island, and the fabulous Miranda Stokkel, one of our fave photographers around. Check out these here snaps and tell us we’re wrong… (Psst – we’re not!)
THE VENUE “Once I found Dune House the vision of the day came to life in my mind. The colours were so stunning and perfectly matched a dress I’d seen and fallen in love with. Being a researcher, I proceeded to obsessively search and mull over single other option on the island, for weeks, but Dune really was the perfect fit. It was pretty hard not being able to go there before to see the space, so there was lots of Instagram stalking and even looking at satellite images to get my head around things.
MEMORABLE MOMENT “Jason and I were together on the day obviously and it was all quite low-key. When my mum and I were driving back from getting my hair done I had a little moment when I wondered if I’d made it all too relaxed. While it had been lovely, the day didn’t have the chaotic buzz most wedding mornings seem to have. But when we got back to Dune House and the girls arrived that all changed! From then on it was pure magic, I don’t think I have ever seen a happier group of people – we were all just elated and having so much fun! Our beautiful musicians, Him and Her Music, were having such a great time that they didn’t want to leave. We were all up dancing, something I never expected. The day just had so much joy.”
LITTLE LOL “The little boy of one of our bridesmaids had a poo explosion during our ceremony and got poo on her dress. I found it hilarious, it was probably not all that funny to her.”
A WORD OF ADVICE “Keep it true to what you want. While Instagram, the internet and magazines are great sources of inspiration, don’t get lost and distracted or start comparing your dream and your plans to what others do. If you make your day about you two, it will be the best day of your life.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “They were honestly all such a perfect, easygoing fit. Trekking over to Kangaroo Island was above and beyond to start with, so those three vendors take the cake! Miranda Stokkel (photographer), Chelsea and Peter of Him and Her Music, and our videographer Etienne of SaltyFrogz were all a really special part of the day, they felt like friends. We are already planning birthday events so we can use them all again!”
