Old enough to know their own minds, Ash and Mik, one of our super cute couple from issue seven, decided to be a little rebellious when it came to planning what was essentially the biggest party of their lives. Ash explains £At the start of the engagement I felt pretty stressed. I looked for months at places and it was all so expensive and just not us. After much thought and consideration they decide to keep things simple with a wedding in the paddock on Mik’s family farm. £After that, it was just so much fun to plan. Mik did a lot of running around the week before the wedding, but even so it was just a blast to organise something so personal and us.
At the ceremony the personal touches just kept coming with Mik surprising Ash by wearing one of her Grandad’s shirts. Ash explains £Walking down the paddock holding my Dad’s hand, we were laughing and chatting the whole way and then I see Mik with a massive smile and he was wearing my Grandad’s flannie. Grandad had passed away at the start of the year and Mik really wanted to wear something to remember him. They’re my three favourite men in the whole world and to have them all there in a way, I just felt so blessed.
Once married by one of their close family friends, they gave each other a congratulatory high five before heading off with their photographer Mitch Pohl for a play in front of the camera. £We were able to have heaps of fun with it and the time out by ourselves was really nice, says Michael, a man who didn’t mind doing a bit of handiwork. £Mik made nearly everything! says Ashlea, proud as punch of her new husband. £The heart on the tree, the drinks and dessert tables in the marquee, the fire pits, the boxes/crates, anything that he could make, he did make. The best thing was that he just used materials that we already had so it looked great but was
cheap too.
Not wanting to miss out on all the action, both their parents also volunteered their time and talents, creating metres of bunting, paper garlands and signs while Ash was busy making old fashion fudge for their wedding favours.
£In the end, I could not have been happier, Ash says of how their laid back country wedding turned out. £I think the funniest thing was that we were both so relaxed about it all! It didn’t feel like that big of a deal that we were getting married! A feeling they were later grateful for when looking back on the whole shebang £it ended up being better than both of us expected and we were able to really be there in the moment rather than having nerves.
