For Amy and Matt, “the most important thing was to have a day where we felt relaxed and happy and so did our guests”, they tell us. “If during the planning it started to feel a bit too formal or stuffy, we would remind each other we just wanted a big dinner party with all our favourite people cutting loose and having fun.”
Choosing the right team of vendors goes a massive way in crafting the right vibe for a wedding, and we must say, these two picked a whole bunch of winners, from the amazing photos by Scott Surplice Photography to the gorgeous blooms courtesy of River & Eve Flora and, ofc, The Vintage Stylus getting guests out of their seats and dancing. We’re also just a wee bit obsessed with Amy’s Grace Loves Lace dress-and-lace-overlay combo and Matt’s vintage-esque three-piece suit by Oscar Hunt Tailors – and with the inimitable Jacqua Celebrant there to make it all official, we can’t think of a better squad!
THE DRESS “My dress was the Grace Loves Lace Arlo gown. Before getting engaged I had never thought too much about wedding dresses and what style I like. After doing a little bit of research I was really drawn to simple silk dresses as it’s a classic and timeless style I could easily accessorise to make my own. I tried on the ‘Arlo’ gown, loved it immediately and bought it straightaway! I added the Mason lace top that had a tie at the back that ran down the length of my dress for the ceremony.”
THE SUIT “We lived in England for two years just before our wedding and loved it, and along with English heritage in my blood, I was really drawn to a traditional vintage tweed suit. I was looking for a suit store that was classy but approachable. When I walked into Oscar Hunt Tailors, I knew immediately this was the right fit. I got a textured three-piece brown wool suit (tweed in the Australian climate was just a bridge too far!) and it was absolutely everything.”
REFERENCES “We actually found a lot of our vendors from Hello May and they were all brilliant. Once we had chosen our venue at Three Blue Ducks, we looked up the real weddings on the Hello May website of couples that had gotten married there and took a lot of inspiration from them. That’s where we saw our photographer Scott Surplice Photography’s amazing work and decided to get in contact with him. We also found our florist Kat from River & Eve Flora on Hello May and couldn’t be happier with what she created for us and Jacqua Celebrant, who all our guests loved for her relaxed and informal ceremony.”
A WORD OF ADVICE “We decided to have photos taken before the ceremony and I can’t recommend this enough! Seeing your partner before the ceremony really helps settle the nerves and is such a special moment when you see each other in your wedding outfits for the first time. It also means that you can continue the good vibes from the ceremony straight into the reception. It just felt like one big get-together.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “We had a lot of amazing vendors and Hello May was a big help with that (wink wink!). They all brought such individualism, enthusiasm and professionalism. We were really lucky. We loved our florist, River & Eve Flora, and her sustainable and familial approach to floral design. Jacqua Celebrant was a reassuring and positive force for the ceremony. Scott Surplice (photographer) captured the evening exactly how it was. The photos were so raw and powerful and it is not hard to relive the event through them.”
We have to say, this is a bloody epic lineup of vendors, and you’ll find them over on our directory. Scott Surplice Photography is a whizz behind the camera (as you can see for yourself), Grace Loves Lace and Oscar Hunt Tailors will have your ‘fits sorted, River & Eve Flora are the ones to call for bangin’ blooms, The Vintage Stylus know how to get the d-floor pumping and Jacqua Celebrant will, ya know, get you hitched (v. important)!
