Amie and Chris’s story is a little unconventional. After a very short engagement, the two got married within only a year of meeting. Fast forward eight years later (to the date), they finally got to have a big wedding celebration.
Having first met and fallen in love in London, it was a sure theme for their ‘Little Vow Party’ at Summerlees in the Southern Highlands. This meant bridesmaids in wellington boots, flower girls in velvet dresses and boys in Herringbone blazers.
“Summerlees was the second venue we looked at and when we came up the long tree lined drive and saw the stunning main house, adjoining 18th century ball room and grounds, we knew it was absolutely perfect. No need to look any further!”
Hoping to create a day that felt like a long Sunday lunch at home, Amie and Chris wanted the party to be very intimate, personal and relaxed.
“Sassy Catering provided wonderful sharing platters of seasonal produce, lots of wine, and lots of laughs, finished off with a huge party on the dance floor with a definite 80’s vibe,” explains the bride, whose crafty beau built his own photobooth stand, complete with an LED light and iPad – a massive hit at the end of the night.
“We set it up on the dancefloor and it was so much fun, with the best photos that show the party in full swing!” Captured by Justin Aaron Photography, the photobooth wasn’t the only DIY. That’s right, Amie’s mum was the brains behind that beautiful bridal gown.
“The dress was definitely a labor of love. My mum, sister and I spent every weekend in the months leading up to the wedding cutting and hand stitching each individual flower/leaf/swirl onto the tulle. The hours we spent sewing together will always be some of my favourite memories, it really was like the movie How To Make An American Quilt’. After around 400 man hours the fabric was finished and mum still had to make the dress! I can never thank her enough for giving me such a special gift.”
