Nine years, two states and a trip to Disneyland was all it took for these two to get hitched. At least they made it seem that easy. For four years she lived in Melbourne, he in Sydney but somehow they made it work. Then finally, after a day full of rides and Mickey Mouse shaped ice-creams on a trip in the US, Mark proposed. “I am a big child at heart and have a little obsession with Disney”, says Ailie, who is now living her own real life fairytale.

Looking to have a laid back, party vibe wedding Ailie and Mark chose to take advantage of their family ties and host their wedding at Manzana in Mt Eliza, Victoria. “We chose Mexican as a theme cause it is both our favourite food and my brother and his girlfriend conveniently own a Mexican tapas and tequila bar. It also worked because our Sydney friends always refer to us as Mexicans as we are south of the border”, says Ailie.

A few margaritas later and guests were having the time of their lives, surrounded by beautiful bouquets and one rather unambiguous piûñata, all of which was caught on camera by photographer Vanessa Norris. Then there was their slide show, projecting their favourite television shows rather than their comedic selves. Instead they chose to highlight their creative talents by doing almost everything themselves including the music, invitations and wedding favours.

Of her dress Ailie says, “when I was younger I had it in my head that I was going to wear a big giant princess dress with lots of tulle and sparkle. My taste changed a lot as I got older and as much as I did not want a big over the top wedding I felt I owed it to my 12 year old self to have a little touch of princess in my dress.” Which is when she found Ting Bridal “It was perfect. The day I decided I wanted to buy it it was $200 cheaper so I took that as a sign. Throw in a gorgeous Bride La Boheme hair piece and we’d wager Ailie pulled together the perfect outfit!
