Setting the intention to keep the wedding ‘simple’, Lex and Dunc decided on “natural colours and textures, calico, wood, and greenery,” plus a delightful “pop of yellow” thanks to the bride’s love of the sunny colour. Caught on camera by Abi Hackling Photography, this New Zealand wedding was a hit- our favourite part (and the bride’s)- was the old school Land Rover used as the wedding car, adding to the rustic vibe. Scroll down to see it all.

THE VENUE We really wanted an outdoor, relaxed wedding with lots of greenery. We went to a few venues and fell in love with Goodin Country Gardens. We loved the cottage-style house and loved the idea of getting married in front of a big willow tree out on the front lawn.

FAVOURITE DETAILS The yellow bridesmaid dresses- along with the billy buttons in my bouquet- I love yellow. I loved the flowers, my best friend Priscilla of Priscilla Naus Creative created them for us and did such an amazing job. Our bespoke rings by Sophie Divett Jewellery and the delicious fresh donuts made by the Public Catering Company.

DIY I designed the invitations, wedding logo, place cards and hand wrote signs on calico fabric. Duncan and I made salted caramel popcorn a few nights before the wedding, which we put in cellophane with a handwritten sticker on the front. My family foraged a few days before the wedding to find the greenery that we put on the tables at the reception.

THE DRESS I couldn’t find a dress that was really ‘me’. I talked to a family friend and she agreed to make my dress for me. I decided on a simple dress with a natural-coloured silk underneath to make the lace stand out. I loved the experience of designing it myself and creating a dress that I absolutely loved.

STANDOUT VENDORS Our celebrant, Tracey Zehnder Celebrant did an amazing job of personalising our ceremony.  She had such an eye for detail and created such an awesome flow. Abi Hackling Photography was amazing, too. So much fun!

WE’RE GLAD WE… Had good caterers! We are still hearing from our guests, raving about the amazing smoked salmon – oh and the tiramisu!
