When lovers of colour, Sarah from the iconic Bangin Hangins and stylist Milly from The Different Darling joined forces to pull together a styled shoot which would push boundaries, you can bet magic was created. From an initial moodboard and colour palette chat, this dynamic pair set out to gather a unique group of creatives from Newcastle, NSW, equally passionate about going against the grain. The result? A wildly eclectic, colourful, cool-AF presentation across two incredible venues, which champions taking an out-of-the-box approach to styling your wedding day. A planning, styling, and coordination service specialising in out-of-the-box, funky, bold weddings, The Different Darling is for those wanting to throw tradition to the wind, and coordinating this concept was no different. “The founding inspiration for the colour palette of the shoot came from garments by Alca Line Bride and Reigner Clothing, as well as a prominent flower in season, wattle,” stylist Milly says. “The lilac and orange combinations were simply stunning and beautifully complemented the pops of yellow. Knowing that Bangin Hangins’ aerial backdrop and The Naked Florist installation were both going to have gorgeous organic shapes, I honed in on this aspect. The contemporary-style tablescape came together through candles of different shapes, cylinder ottomans, and quirky shaped crockery/glassware.”
This streamer-based event installation biz based in Melbourne, has on-ground installers in Brisbane, Sydney and Newcastle too. All their pieces are available for hire, meaning you can feel guilt-free knowing these setups are zero waste and reusable! You can also customise your colour palette to suit your desired flavour, whether it’s bold and bright or chic and neutral. When it came to this set-up, Sarah says, “We really wanted to use a lavender dress from the Alca Line Bride Lilac Label range, so for The Edwards bar location, lavender was a starting point for the palette. Orange/peachy tones were brought into the mix as they are on the opposite side of the colour wheel. For this reason, the palette melds really well together, particularly when you use multiple tones of the same shade. No black and white to be seen here!”
THE NAKED FLORIST
Specialising in sculptural designs, complex colour palettes and layered textures, Ashleigh from The Naked Florist nailed the brief when it came to this bangin’ set-up. “We wanted to create a feeling of joy for the alternative couple, those not afraid to have fun, be silly and be their true authentic selves,” Ashleigh shares. “The floral designs stemmed from what was flourishing in the current season – wattle. With wattle being in full bloom, I felt the need to use this soft fluffy texture in a modern playful way.” LOVE!
Photographer Dea’s style is a blend of candid and documentary, capturing the genuine, unscripted moments as well as more artistic shots that highlight the individuality of a wedding. “My inspiration for this shoot was to capture the pure joy that comes with having a colourful, eclectic urban wedding,” Dea says. “Capturing the fun, playful personalities of real couple, Gracie and Jordan, was just as important as all of the amazing details created by the killer list of vendors. I wanted to show that a styled shoot can embrace the spirit of a real wedding while still providing couples inspiration for their own wedding day.”
The Alca Line Bride gowns not only provided the inspiration for the fun colour palette but also stole the show. Sourced from one of our favourite Melbourne bridal boutiques, Moonstruck Bride, the dreamy dresses are bold and playful and coupled with the groom’s statement jacket prove that colour can be done oh-so-right on your big day.
