In our Shopfront profile from Issue 14, we chatted to Elizabeth Briedis, co-founder of cult Aussie label Spell & the Gypsy Collective, about their new shop front and the Spell Bride collection.
Talk to us about your new space…. We spend so much time being inspired by the beautiful spaces we see on our travels or in our every day lives on blogs and Pinterest, but we wanted to create a beautiful space of our very own. We have put all of our love into this space to create a unique and tangible experience for people visiting Spell from near and far, to really experience the brand.
We hear you’ve included a bridal suite… We have! We launched Spell Bride in 2015 with just two gowns, and the response was absolutely overwhelming. When I was looking for a bridal gown last year I found it so hard to find something off the rack and finally understood why there had been such a positive response to our gowns. Our bridal suite is a gorgeous, intimate space where our brides can try on our gowns in privacy while looking down on our store. We’ll be using the space for private shopping experiences too – at the moment it’s my favourite chill out space!
Do brides need to make an appointment? Yes! You can email bride@spelldesigns.com to make an appointment to try on gowns.
Do you have a favourite gown from Spell Bride? Well of course it is the Elizabeth which was a late addition based on my own wedding gown that Isabella designed for me. All I wanted was a gorgeous light, gauzy cotton wedding dress and I couldn’t find one! So with six weeks to go I asked my team to create one. We loved it so much we decided to make it a gown in the collection. Honestly, they are all beautiful for different reasons!
Your top three Hinterland wedding venues? The Grove (where I got married!), Raes on Wategos (more the ocean than the Hinterland!) and my friend got married in the tiny garden at Harvest with a handful of her friends, and had a little lunch in the bakery afterwards it was so intimate and laid back.
Where can our readers find you? 15 Browning Street, Byron Bay – open 7 days a week 9am-5pm, or online here.
You can check out more of the Spell Bride collection here and the Spell Bridesmaids dress edit here. You’ll also find a couple of Spell Brides in our third annual Real Wedding Special, on sale now and stocked in newsagents nationally!
