Today’s Hello Vendor profile see’s us sitting down for a chat with the lovely Nat from Dizzy Wizzy Design, a creative studio and stationery design business based out of Perth, Western Australia. We have long been a fan of Nat’s gorgeous designs, so much so, we featured them in our paper goods special in issue two of Hello May magazine, available for purchase here.
Tell us a little about your background? I’m a Perth based graphic designer with over 12 years experience. The majority of my work life has been spent in the public sector, working as an in-house creative in a small yet very busy marketing team.
How did you get into the stationery design game? I started Dizzy Wizzy Design in 2008 as a creative outlet from my job as an in-house graphic designer. Designing invitations is much more fun than typesetting reports. It was something I did in my spare time up until a year ago when I decided to go part-time and give freelancing a go. I expanded my offering to include graphic and website design services. Dizzy Wizzy was a nickname given to me by a colleague so when I decided to start my business it seemed natural to use that name.
Talk us through a typical day in the Dizzy Wizzy studio? The morning generally kicks off with some form of exercise. Mountain biking, Circuit training and Bikram Yoga are my favourites at the moment. Coffee is next on the list and then I’m into my home studio to check my emails. I like to get into work as early as I can, breaking around lunch time by running errands or just getting outdoors with a walk, ride or dip in the ocean. Then it’s back into the office until dinnertime.
Where do you find your inspiration? I’m lucky enough to live by the coast and get in the water as much as possible. I think to stay inspired you need to take time out and change your surroundings whenever you can.
Do you have a favourite colour combo you are particularly in love with? Oh my goodness, this is always changing. At the moment I’m smitten with the combination of pink, mustard and black. It sounds like quite an eclectic mix but would be fun on a modern wedding invitation.
Do you have a favourite design in your collection? Hmmm, this is like being asked to choose a favourite child – just kidding. I was lucky enough to work some very talented Perth wedding vendors on a photo shoot with Jen Huang. I created a suite of stationery called You’re My Type. It was fun using the mix of rustic recycled paper with elegant typography.
Do you offer custom design too? If so talk us through the process I offer a custom design service for wedding invitations that are truly unique. I work closely with brides (and sometimes grooms) to bring their dreams to life and create wedding stationery that is a true reflection of their personal style. It is great to see photos or sketches of the bride’s dress, pictures of flowers and cake, features of the wedding location, the couples own likes and dislikes and any other personal or wedding details they can think of.
The time to complete invitations will depend on the design and quantities ordered, however it generally takes about six to eight weeks. We can turn around orders faster in urgent cases. I provide a couple of different designs for you to choose from. From here the design is perfected and we finalise the order ready for printing.
