After some indecision, Rachael and Charles settled on the idea of an industrial, inner city wedding. Combining elegant, modern lighting with berry coloured bouquets and gold accessories they transformed Brisbane Powerhouse into something quite special.
£My favourite detail was the Edison lighting we had hanging at the Powerhouse. I couldn’t have imagined a more stunning backdrop for our ceremony? When I walked in and saw Charles standing there (sobbing might I add) I felt like I was living a fairytale, says Rachael.
Their reception, held at Spring Food and Wine, was just as charming – a surprise, really, considering they only had four weeks to prepare. As Rachael explains, £Four weeks out from our wedding we got a call from our initial reception venue to let us know that their renovations would not be finished in time for our wedding. It was an absolute whirlwind until we found Spring Food and Wine!
Her search for the perfect dress was also quite an adventure. £IT TOOK FOREVER!!! says Rachael who’d returned from an overseas trip empty handed (and slightly defeated) before she found (and fell in love with) Australian designer Karen Willis Holmes. £When I slipped the dress on and looked in the mirror I had my first moment where I truly felt like a bride! I knew it was the dress.
Fortunately everything else, left in the hands of some very talented vendors including Hampton Event Hire, H+S Hair and Beauty and Kait Photography, went ahead without a hitch. Well, almost.
£Our reception was shut down at midnight when our sparkler exit set off the smoke alarm in the reception venue! Fortunately there wasn’t a fire (or any damage) but the arrival of two fire trucks and a few firemen gave us the perfect opportunity for a sneaky and quick exit!
High on love, it seemed nothing was ever going to dampen this pair’s day which is why their advice to other engaged couples now is: £Don’t overthink it! There are so many wonderful ideas and themes and locations out there but do what you and your fiancû? love and share that with your family and friends! I think I planned about 10 possible weddings before we finally decided what we were going to do. Pick a theme or a location you love and run with it!
