For Kia and Jesse, their day was all about spending quality time with their loved ones, surrounded by the great outdoors- and what a place to celebrate a wedding! Lucky for this Sunshine Coast based couple, they had Jesse’s folks place at their disposal, “It didn’t take long for us to be set on Jesse’s family property, which is literally a castle with forest surrounds! I couldn’t think of a better place to have a fairytale wedding.”
Kia explains the proposal was quite the surprise, with a dinner date (that did not end with a question, to her dismay), a drive home (with her falling asleep as Jesse took a sneaky detour via the camp they met at some six years ago…) “I opened my eyes to see the most incredible setup; a draped material hall filled with flowers, hand made paper cranes, candles and precious photo memories.” Tearing up all the way down the hall, Jesse lead her through, then, bended knee- popped the question!
Their 7 month engagement was filled with DIY efforts from the bride and her family, including watercolour paper, signage, name places and napkins. For the not-so-DIY-able things, the couple picked some of the industry’s finest to work with. Choosing to go with recommendations from their fave vendors (including the wonderful Twig and Grace who were responsible for the florals and styling), they enlisted the photographic work of Shane Shepherd, a Hello May veteran.
When asked what their advice would be to other couples in the lead up to their wedding day, they replied with this gem, “Remember it’s a once in a lifetime day! But also remember that it’s one day in a lifetime. Spend money, spend time on it, but don’t forget ultimately it’s not about just that one day. There are things you can go without and still be happy!”
