Ok, we’ll admit we’ve never been one for celebrating our birthday! When we came onto the scene (back in 2012) we didn’t have a launch party and in the years that followed we never quite got around to celebrating our first or second birthdays either and whilst we acknowledge any independent publication surviving three years on the newsstands in this digital day and age is no mean feat, we had no real plans to celebrate our third year of existence either.
But then we moved into our new warehouse. An old metal fabrication factory aptly titled The Workshop on Sydney’s Southern Beaches. Our new home was a place where local creatives could come to work and play and we thought Why the heck not have a party to celebrate!’ and so the Hello May third birthday / warehouse warming / chance to gather some of our longest standing advertisers and supporters around for a drink was born and invitations designed by The Articulate and printed by The Distillery were promptly sent out.
As with any good wedding, this particular party would never have happened with out the help of some seriously talented industry vendors, whom naturally we can not recommend highly enough! Our friends from Brisbane and Sydney based event planning and styling outfit Hope and Lace pulled all the necessary pieces together (hay bales, lighting, glassware etc.) and made them look fab on the day whilst Jo from Garnish Creative Catering on the South Coast went above and beyond when it came to ensuring no one had to swing into a drive through Macca’s on the way home.
We Play Records read the room like it was nobody’s business and had everyone shaking their groove thang under our festoon lights from 1000 Stars well into the early hours of the next morning, whilst CliqBooth kept us all thoroughly entertained with their awesome photo booth, complete with an epic green wall backdrop from our fave Sydney floral styling business The Sisters.
As everyone mulled around the That Vintage Caravan bar and Sammy and Lola Vegas lights, resting their drinks on merlot barrels from The Barrel Company, our friends from The Simple Things Studio snapped away, capturing every hilarious moment and gorgeous detail as they always do.
Thanks to everyone who came and joined in the merriment, especially those who travelled from Brisbane, The Sunshine Coast, Byron Bay, New Zealand, Melbourne and good old Canberra! Here’s to the next three years!
