There’s no birthday surprise quite like a proposal – just ask David, who, after a morning jam-packed with mooching around Sydney, popped the question to Claire on her special day. “While we were getting ready for our night out it just seemed like the right time. I had planned to wait until a big holiday later that year, but this felt better,” David explains.
Held in the Blue Mountains, this pair admit they “didn’t really have a theme.” Instead, they took inspiration from their venue, Jemby Rinjah – a casual, cosy nook with an enormous fireplace.
“It was really important for the wedding to feel relaxed, almost as if we had just invited everyone round to our house. All of our flowers were Australian natives, which fit with the surroundings, and we used lots of tiny fairy lights and lights in jars to set the mood… The clincher was that pretty much all of the guests were able to stay on site in log cabins and we figured that stumbling distance to bed always makes for a better party!”
Captured by Willow and Co, Claire rocked a Rachel Gilbert gown which she admits was totally different than what she had in mind when she started looking. “I was not expecting to end up in a sparkly number. The Rachel Gilbert dress that I ended up wearing was a total fluke. I saw the dress and thought it was beautiful. I immediately tried it on and loved it. Not only that, it fit almost perfectly.”
