Dom and Drew are cute guys. And had an awesome wedding – even on the cuspt of COVID. “We didn’t imagine marriage to be in complete lockdown the next day haha! To be stuck at home for seven months straight, is a real test of your wedding vows! It’s also a bit of a shock when you introduce [each other] as ‘Husband’ or ‘Wife’… We’ve been practising that in the mirror due to lockdown. And our reflections are just as confused as we are!” You can see why we like them right? Fast forward to the big day and add a whole host of our fave vendors;  She Takes Pictures He Makes Films on camera (both photographing the good times and videoing them!), Fourside Food Design & Events on catering and Miss Ladybird Cakes on the erm, cakes, of course. So scroll down for all the deets…

LITTLE LOL “The week before our wedding was our Hens and Stags. Luckily enough our entire bridal party had flown down a few weeks before the restrictions started. The next day after our celebrations, the Prime Minister made a statement that those flying into Australia before 12am on Monday morning (the next day), will need to quarantine for two weeks! Unfortunately everyone’s transiting flights turned around including my brother. Then the day after the announcement, the second restriction requested that only 100 people were allowed in an outdoor gathering and 50 inside, but had to be distanced. Oh boy, that was a stressful week! Not to mention our bridal party were unable to fly back home after the wedding, and were living with us for two weeks. Which consisted of seven people and spaces filled with airbeds around the place haha.”

THE VIBE “The theme from the get-go was to do a New Zealand and Australia inspo. Drew is Australian and I am a Kiwi. Our crest was a Kiwi and koala that was designed by Poppy’s Papercuts. The Glasshaus Outside was perfect as I felt that it was the closest look to home as it had so much greenery. It had a lovely feel to it. Our flowers were native foliage of ferns and eucalyptus so it tied in nicely. Our cake toppers that we made was a kiwi bride and a koala groom. And not forget our pug who was on the cake too!”

THE DRESS “I never wanted to be a traditional bride. White was never really a go to for me as I am obsessed with colours and textures. My first idea was to make the dress myself, I had images of Gucci’s 2016 Spring collection in mind and wanted to hand bead it. But that idea was already giving me panic attacks. So I picked up a copy of Hello May’s magazine and came across the issue of Lisa in the Jamie Major dress on her wedding day. And that was it, I had to try and find that dress! I kept Googling it and then would go onto the Still White website to see what other dresses they had on there.. AND THERE IT WAS, THE EXACT SAME DRESS! So I contacted Lisa and managed to get my hands on it. It was love at first sight.”

KEY VENDORS “I bought every Hello May issue when I was engaged. It gave us amazing options of vendors that you would never expect to find on your own. Such as the Glasshaus Outside, She Takes Pictures He Makes Films, our Celebrant, Kate Morgan and Cake, Miss Ladybird Cakes. Our flowers were recommended to us by friends.”

CUTE CUSTOM “Being a Kiwi, we really embrace our indigenous culture as well as having Maori relatives. New Zealand greenstone is very special and plays an important role in the Maori culture. To be gifted greenstone (Pounamu) is a symbol of respect, admiration and love. However it’s ideal to give someone who means something to you a greenstone than to purchase if for yourself. During one of the speeches, my mum gifted Drew a greenstone pendant, which is a very symbolic moment for us.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Everyone went above and beyond. I think its fair to say that we were waiting for a vendor to cancel as I’m sure they were thinking we were going to do the same. But we wanted to go full steam ahead and their support has been so overwhelming. We had less than three days to organise catering and Fourside Food Design & Events were incredible. Lucy and Alastair helped our day run super smoothly and were truly out of this world. Kate Morgan our Celebrant was incredible and helped calm our nerves. The team at the Glasshaus Outside were so relaxed and magnificent.”
