Ella & Jey’s Melb wedding was an urban dream, folks. Both lawyers, these lovers opted for decadence and dinner parties and we likey. Not only did Ella look like an angel in her ruby red gown but these two utilised a whole heap of our fave vendors. Mad About Cakes concocted a lemon curd and caramelised peach number whilst Cushla Whiting were on rings. To top it off, Motta Weddings captured all these sweet shots. So, scroll down for good times…

THE VENUE “We only ended up looking at two venues and it was easy to choose. Smith Street (where Panama is located) was where we had lots of early dates and close to our place. We loved the arch windows, the bar, and the great food. We wanted a venue that was easy for most people to get to and finally because we were having a winter wedding, we wanted it to be indoors. It was also a big plus that we could have the ceremony and reception in the one place and the staff were super helpful.”

THE VIBE “We really just wanted it to be a fun party and we hoped for everyone we invited to have a great time. We saw the wedding as a way to celebrate our amazing family and friends. We wanted it to be colourful as well as Jey’s family is from Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan weddings are usually super colourful and we were really happy that many of Jey’s relatives wore beautiful saris. We were hoping for a really happy memorable day.”

FAVOURITE DETAILS “We loved the flowers, especially the amazing orangey-red roses in the bridal flowers and the flowers in the arch window that Emily created with pampas grass and red roses. Other highlights were the delicious lemon curd and caramelized peach cake [Mad About Cakes].”

DIY… “We did DIY gift bags and we filled them with a selection of Indian/Sri Lankan sweets. We also spray painted gold the dinosaurs for our cake which was almost a disaster as they only just dried in time.”

THE DRESS “ My dress was actually the first I tried on! I never really saw myself wearing a white one. My super chic boss at the time saw the dress at Christine Accessories in Melbourne and showed me a picture. I loved the dress when I tried it on and they were so gorgeous and friendly in the shop and excited for me to get married in it. I really wanted a dress I could wear again and we are both huge Nick Cave fans as well! I was a bit nervous it would be a big surprise for Jey but he loved it.”

A TOUCH OF TRADITION “We had previously had a traditional blessing ceremony at a Hindu Temple in Melbourne so our actual wedding was more of a party.”

Pretty impressed with these sweet captures? So are we. Happy days because you can find more real weddings by Motta Weddings here and contact details here. Convenient, huh?
