These two groovers got engaged after Pete took Laura by surprise with a street piano rendition of ‘Maybe I’m Amazed’ by Paul McCartney, the couples special song. After 11 glorious years together they decided to tie the knot in Canberra with the bride making her way down the aisle in a pink and blue 50s style dress. Our pals (and two of our fave ACT photographers) Corinna and Dylan were there to capture all the quirky details. Scroll down for more…
THE VENUE “We’re night owls and we wanted to be able to enjoy the night for as long as we wanted. I had childhood memories of The Woolshed, playing soccer in the sheep pens with my best friend at the Chilean Independence Day. So it felt right.”
THE VIBE “We called the wedding a ‘Festival of Love.’ We wanted it to have a welcoming community vibe, for people to wear what they wanted, feel comfortable and have a good time. Pete and I spend a lot of time at festivals and we love the connection it brings out in people. Our community is very important to us.”
THE DRESS “I always wanted an offbeat dress. My Mum had a beautiful turquoise wedding dress in the 80s and I always thought that was really cool. I took a road trip up to Newtown in Sydney to try to find something interesting and we stumbled across this cute vintage inspired boutique, Gigi’s Fairy Fashion, which made 50’s and 60’s shaped dresses. When the shop attendant brought out the bright pink I was sceptical but the lace overlay with blues and purples was so interesting. I’d never seen anything like it.”
FAVE DETAILS “My bouquet was gorgeous! It was roses and orchids that matched my dress tied with cute pastel ribbons! Also, who could forget the Glitter Station! I’m known in my friendship group for spreading happy glitter! As two lovers of glitter, we wanted to encourage people to get as glittery as they liked.”
FAVE MOMENT “Our ceremony was amazing. We didn’t have a bridal party so we made a home video, filming our friends and family for the two years we were engaged so everyone could ‘walk us down the aisle’ in a way. Then at the height of the song, we walked down the aisle together. It was so lovely to stand up the front and see all these beautiful faces of the people we love, beaming at us.”
WE’RE GLAD WE…“We’re really glad we went with our dream photographers [Corinna and Dylan]. They were amazing. Not just at taking the photos but also being enthusiastic and making it all feel really special right from day one.”
