We must admit, we were particularly excited to see our friend’s (and Light Noise Films cinematographers’) relaxed, rustic wedding come in. Held on their 10 year anniversary, the clever pair conveniently only have one date to remember, and see marriage as “two people committing to evolve together, to a love that will grow and withstand anything life throws at it.” Couldn’t agree more, and despite the wedding plans being made pre-marriage equality, acknowledge that “the legalities that come along with marriage are incredibly important to us- especially after having our little boy, Ren.” Scroll down for all the gorgeous pics by Lara Hotz, and details on everything from the music (courtesy of Tillee Music and The Vintage Stylus) to the outfits, plus a LONG list of amazing vendors…
LITTLE LOL “As I was about four months pregnant when we started telling people about the wedding, one our friends jokingly asked if we were getting married because Bree got me pregnant.”
THE VENUE “We were originally planning to host the wedding in our backyard. While looking for accommodation for a few of our wonderful vendors, we checked out a lovely country property- a five-minute drive from the town we live in. We were amazed by the view and charm of the old cottage and instantly asked the owners if we could hire out the property for our wedding instead. They had never hosted a wedding there before, but were more than happy for us to do so.”
THE VIBE “Grandma’s loungeroom. Inspired by all the awesome vintage/retro finds we collected from Gumtree (including a retro bar that we decorated with old spirit bottles we found at Bree’s Nan’s house).”
FAVOURITE DETAIL “The handmade resin vases that our friend Tom (Ritual Object) crafted and leant to us for the day. Also, we asked my mum to make a trifle for the day- we wanted to change things up a bit and have a ‘spooning of the trifle’ instead of a ‘cake cutting’. She surprised us by making two of the most brilliant rainbow-coloured trifles!”
DIY “All of the organising, the set-up and pack down, most of the decorations, signs, the grazing table and drinks menu. We had so much help moving tonnes of furniture, festoon lights, and people cutting fruit and bread for hours. In hindsight, we would have hired help for the setup and pack down, and a few extra bits and pieces. Loading trailers with furniture the morning after the wedding is not ideal, especially if you’re sporting a sore head.”
THE OUTFITS “Ohh the dress. Initially I (Bree) had purchased a cute little number from a second-hand shop in Newcastle for $16. Soon after, I found a lovely full-length blue dress online. I ordered it and that was 100% the dress… Until only a month out from the wedding (with the potential of above 40 degree days) I was starting to get nervous that I’d be too hot. Also, Brooke looked so smart in her outfit and the blue dress just didn’t suit. At the last minute, I decided to hit up a few local shops and I found the dress in Witchery. I (Brooke) had an idea of what I wanted my outfit to look like (thanks Pinterest). The high waisted pants from Princess Highway were an easy find. They were the first I had tried on, and I instantly loved them. Trying to find a funky and feminine dress shirt was the hardest part, but I ended up purchasing two different styles, and went with the Handsom shirt on the day.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Lara Hotz is a creative genius! She makes sure everything is looking its best and that every moment is captured artfully. The photos are incredible and they take us straight back to the day. Our celebrant, Jessie Cacchillo did such a wonderful job in writing and reading our story. Adam from The Vintage Stylus knows where all the good tunes are at, has a sweet looking vintage set up, complete with boxes of records that he shuffles through all night, and is just an all-around great person. He really set the vibe for the whole afternoon, and the music was one of the things that almost everybody commented on after the wedding. We have gotten to know the team at Tillee Music really well and knew that we wanted Jeremy to play at our wedding. He wrote us a song to walk down the aisle to and had us in tears listening to it for the first time. We’ll be forever grateful.”
