It’s not often that we feature overseas weddings but these dark and romantic images by Melissa Milis had us intrigued. We paused what we were doing and for a moment pretended we were on the set of Baz Luhrmann’s next romantic masterpiece – sipping champagne and shaking hands with offshore royalty. Plus it’s always nice to know how the rest of the world rolls.
And it seems they roll in lots of nice things, at least in Belgium. Like prosciutto and prawns, breathtaking, stain-glassed churches and beautifully hand-embroider gowns. Despite all the fancy food and manicured lawns however, the vibe of the reception was quite low key. “Like a late southern, summer’s day”, Laura said. With long wooden tables and plenty of parmesan and carpaccio to feed her large Italian family.
And then there was that dress! Reminiscent of The Great Gatsby and with enough beads to cover an entire beach, Laura took sophisticated glamour to a whole new level in her Yolan Cris gown.
By far our favourite feature of the night though would have to be the piûñata wedding cake. It reminded us that no matter where we are in the world, one thing Laura and Vincent said will always ring true:
“When the day has finally arrived, forget about everything and enjoy!”
