For some couples, the thought of a formal ceremony and huge reception just doesn’t tickle their fancy. Take Iris and Soenke, for example, who recently eloped at Bondi Beach with the amazing Luke Going Photography there to capture all the fun.
“We wanted a stress free and relaxed ceremony rather than a ‘typical’ wedding where one spends most of his/her time organising the special day worrying about every minor detail,” explains Iris, who looked gorgeous in her Manning Cartell.
An obviously easy-going pair, Iris and Soenke say they’re glad that the day turned out as relaxed as they’d anticipated. “The day was for us only so we decided to invite the minimum people possible, which were our celebrant Oliver Thomson, our photographer Luke (who acted as a witness) and Gunnar, Soenke’s brother, who secretly flew over from Germany to fill the role of the second witness. We did not tell any of our friends or family members about the wedding till 24 hours after.”
And, while the bride tells us that marriage means “a closer bond” and “needing to live with Soenke’s ‘non-funny’ jokes forever”, Iris and her forever lover agree that they have no regrets about eloping and share some great words of wisdom for other couples considering the same.
“Keep it simple, relaxed and personal. Its your day so celebrate it the way YOU like it. Also keep an eye on the number of guests since an elopement means that you are doing it alone and secretly…”
