She was the lady in red, dressed in a breathtaking burnt orange gown by Collette Dinnigan (that we featured in issue one) and he was the handsome groom, in a sophisticated Ted Baker suit. “… Our £first look was one of best moments of the day!!” says Emily. “Gareth had no idea that I was going to wear a burnt orange dress and the look on his face was pure shock followed by £how did you keep this a secret from me!!! said with a massive smile plastered across his face. This moment was so beautifully captured by our incredible friends and photographers Fred + Hannah so we can relive the moment over and over again!”
Their wedding, held at The Mill on Morrison in Hobart, Tasmania was a day filled with friends and family who had made the journey form Emily and Gareth’s hometown in Sydney. “We wanted a really relaxed wedding in an old, character laden, urban setting in Hobart. So a converted flour Mill right by the wharf was perfect”, says Emily, a DIY queen. “I love dabbling in all things creative! I made the stationery, table runners… and made all the decorations at the wedding. I bought the flowers and made the bouquets, wreath, hair clip and boutonniere with a little help from my lovely bridesmaids! We even did our own hair and make up on the day.”
The best part of their day however, was something neither of them could have prepared for. “On the day we had our portraits taken outside some quintessential Hobart homes in Battery Point. We started to goof around and pretend that one of them was our house and we were just chilling out the front, as you do. Then out of no where, a lady walked right past us with her dog and proceeded to enter the house we were pretending to own… it was hard to keep a straight face.”
