With a proposal that included the gorgeous Queenstown, NZ backdrop, a night of dancing, (and a famous Ferg Burger – a Queenstown delicacy), the duo that is SJ and Alex spent the next nine months planning their gorgeous DIY’d wedding in Beechworth, Victoria.
“We kept referring to our wedding as a whimsical wonderland, and I guess you could say Bohemian’.” The pair set their sights on May Day Kitchens for their ceremony, whilst their beautiful Air B’n’B,Bald Hills, made the perfect location for their reception, which was full to the brim with epic DIY’s.
SJ designed the entire wedding stationary, including the invitations, prints, signs, menus and stubby holders, whilst Alex set to work on the timber signs and glass wishing well. The pair enlisted the help of SJ’s mum, who planted each and every one of the wedding favour succulents, not to mention whipped up some rather delicious looking desserts.
The bride explained she fell in love with the Wood Rose gown from Rue De Seine the moment she tried it on at The Bridal Atelier in Melbourne. “I had a booking at another bridal shop afterwards, but kept picturing the Rue de Seine gown, and I knew I had to have it!”
When it came to picking the photographer, they couple say they knew from the get go, “We were very lucky to have our talented friend Tilly Clifford photograph our wedding. SJ and Tilly met at University and we always wanted nothing more than for Tilly to capture our day.”
SJ and Alex mentioned they discovered the talented duo, Andrew and Grace of Bottlebrush Films on Hello May, and enlisted their incredible cinematography services to capture the day on film.
The couple explain they loved every moment of planning their DIY day, however the bride did offer future DIY-ers this gem of advice, “DELEGATE, DELEGATE, DELEGATE!” We couldn’t agree more, in fact, ‘that’s what family’s for’ may just have come from this very scenario, no?
