After months of searching, Sam and Jonny finally stumbled upon the perfect spot to host their wedding. “One day we went walking in Hunua Falls and happened upon the most beautiful forest, full of pine trees, right next to the river and with overgrown plants growing everywhere and we knew immediately that this was the perfect place for us to get married”, says Sam who wanted to create an atmosphere that was colourful and warm.
Over the next seven months they worked with a team of incredible vendors including Two Foxes Styling and Floral Stylist to bring their vision to life. “It was a beautiful day, and nothing could have spoiled it for us”, says Sam despite Mother Nature forcing their ceremony inside.
“We love, love, loooved our photographers/cinematographers. They did an incredible job of calming our nerves and making us feel comfortable in front of the camera”, says Sam referring to Johanna Macdonald, Susan of Love and Stuff Photography and Patty Lagera who together captured every detail of Sam and Johnny’s day – from their handmade place cards to Sam’s gorgeous Rue de Seine dress (who’s gowns you can see more of here, here and here)
“We bought it from a cute little boutique out in the beautiful countryside of Kumeu called Secret Lace Bridal. As soon as I put it on I knew it was the dress for me and I still love it so much”, says Sam who doesn’t mind that she only gets to wear it once. “Marriage means I can get fat”, she says cheekily.
On a more serious note however, her advice to other engaged couples in this: “Just relax. The wedding is a few hours, and marriage is your whole life. Make it special, but don’t feel pressured to put on a lavish event if that’s not your style. Be you and create a day that you are comfortable with.”
