A day jam-packed with beautiful memories (which were beautifully photographed by Janneke Storm and filmed by Joel Tronoff), it’s no surprise that Rachel and Steve wouldn’t have changed any part of their day, admitting it was better than they could have ever imagined. “Walking down the aisle seeing my future husband and baby boy down the end made me feel excited and calm. I was so nervous but when I finally got to see them, I instantly felt better. It was the quickest part of the day,” explains Rachel, who wanted to keep things as neutral and timeless as possible.
“The vibe we wanted was relaxed and for everyone to be as comfortable and looked after as possible. That being said, my favourite detail, if I had to pick just one, was the atmosphere at the reception venue. When we walked in, the view was breathtaking and everyone looked like they were really having the best time,” she tells us, adding that the day ran pretty smoothly. Well, mostly…
“On the wedding day, Steve was getting ready. But when he put his pants on he thought to himself, ‘these are a bit tight’. Then my dad was getting ready and came out in his pants that were miles too big. The dry cleaner had accidentally switched the pants so on the way to the ceremony my dad had to wear no pants and then when we arrived before I walked down the aisle, dad and Steve had to swap pants!”
And those weren’t the only clothing challenges. Rachel’s experience of finding a bridal gown post-baby was no small feat. She says, “My dress was the second one I tried on. I went to Brides by Francesca to see a Berta dress. I didn’t love the first one I went to look at and tried the second one on just because I was there. I immediately knew it was the one as soon as I saw it on. Overall, the experience was nerve-racking as I just had a baby and didn’t know how I would go with my weight so had to order my dream dress 8 months out and guess my size. I ordered it way too big but the seamstress did an amazing job in making sure it fit me; I went from a size 12 to an 8!”
When thinking back to the big event, Rachel and Steve say that, despite what some people may tell you, your guests WILL notice all the little details. “It’s the little details that made the day so much more beautiful. Also, from the moment the day started our guests were looked after which made them feel thought of. So much so, they made comments to Steve and I that it was the best wedding they had been to!” And with amazing vendors like Byron Bay Tipi Weddings and Luciana Rose on board it’s bloody easy to see why!
