I’m Charlie, the filmmaker behind The Jade Loft. Based in Sydney, I’ve spent more than a decade working in commercial filmmaking. But weddings are where I get to make something a little more personal.
For me, a wedding film should do more than show you what the day looked like. It should take you back to what it felt like. Your partner’s voice during the vows. Your best mate’s speech. Your family laughing in the background. Even those little moments you probably didn’t realise were happening.
My approach is documentary-led, with a cinematic eye. I like to keep things natural and unobtrusive. That gives you the space to enjoy your day without feeling like you’re on a film set. I’ll give you a little direction when it helps, but I’m not interested in turning your wedding into a production. The good stuff usually happens when you forget I’m there.
I’m a sucker for good music, honest storytelling and films that feel just as good decades from now as they do when you first watch them. I also shoot Super 8 film for couples who love that imperfect, nostalgic home movie feel.
Sydney is home, but I’m always up for a change of scenery. I regularly film across Australia, Italy and Europe. There’s something pretty special about a wedding somewhere you’ve always dreamed of getting married.
Ultimately, I want to make something that feels unmistakably yours. Not a highlight reel of a wedding, but a little piece of your life you can return to long after the flowers have dried up.
