Candy Ng | Melbourne Live Illustrator

When I was planning my own wedding, I went and learned calligraphy, hand-lettered all the stationery, designed and painted every invite myself.
I didn’t have to. I did it cause I wanted every detail to feel personal and beautiful.

The guests felt it and can’t stop talking about it. And that moment taught me something I’ve never forgotten: The most meaningful parts of a wedding are the ones that make your guests feel it was made just for them.

I’m Candy, a Melbourne live event illustrator known for elegant guest portraits and live sketching experiences.

Before I sketch guests at weddings, I spent years sketching live at VIP events for Prada, Dior, Burberry, Chaumet and Balenciaga. That’s where I learned to create beautiful work quickly, consistently and while people watch.

At your wedding, I draw your guests and precious moments in real time using Copic markers and watercolour. Each guest portrait takes around 7 minutes. Couple sketches around 10. It’s warm and fun experience during your celebration… and a keepsake your guests will still have on their wall years later.

My style is flattering, fashion-forward and elevated. I capture the moments and people at their best.

If you’re a couple who value art, care about the finest details, and giving your loved ones something genuinely beautiful… I’d love to be part of your day!

Here is what my couple says:
“It was such a hit and everyone loved it!!”
“She added the best element of surprise and fun to the reception”

How is a live fashion illustrator different from a caricature artist?

A caricature artist exaggerates features for humour. A live fashion illustrator does the opposite. The focus is on elegance, personal style and movement, not laughs. Guests leave with a sketch that feels like a fashion portrait, something they’d want to frame or share. The two experiences create completely different energy at a wedding.

Do guests have the opportunity to interact with me, take photos or try to sketch during the event?

Absolutely, and honestly this is one of my favourite parts of the job.

Guests are always welcome to pull up a chair, watch the illustration come to life, and have a chat while I work. That interactive energy is what separates a live artist experience from just receiving a printed gift. It gives guests something to do or chat about while they mingle.

Every guest should leave feeling like they were part of something special.

How far in advance should we book your service?

As early as possible, genuinely.

For weddings, most couples book their live wedding illustrator 12 to 18 months in advance. I intentionally limit my wedding bookings to four per month and a maximum of 20 weddings per year, so every couple receives the time, care and attention their day deserves. Wedding dates at popular venues go quickly, and my availability is no different.

What size are the sketches and what materials do you use?

All live fashion illustrations are completed on A5 white card (300gsm), which is the perfect size for framing. Smaller sizes are available on request if your event would like something more compact.

The A5 card is a great size. It keeps turnaround time quick so no guest waits too long, while still giving everyone a finished piece that feels substantial and worth keeping.

Every sketch is created using professional artist-grade materials including watercolours, Copic markers, Faber-Castell colour pencils and fine liners. We only use the highest quality materials possible so the colours stay vibrant and the lines stay sharp long after the event is over.

Once completed, each artwork is packed in a clear plastic sleeve with backing board. White envelopes are available on request.

How many guests can you sketch per hour?

I typically sketch 50-55 guests during a six-hour wedding as I love to maintain a certain quality for each of my sketches.

For larger guest lists, multiple artists can work simultaneously to ensure more people get a keepsake. I have a team of experienced illustrators and can arrange multiple artists for larger-scale weddings.

How does it actually work during my wedding?

I will arrive at your venue 30 minutes before the start time to set up.

During the cocktail hour or before the ceremony, I will introduce myself to the guests, or guests can come up to my illustration station, take a quick photo and continue to mingle.

Depending on the package, there’s a maximum number of guests that can be accommodated during the wedding. Once I reach that capacity, I will put a little sign saying “Sorry, fully booked”. If you opt in to my “after-event service”, I will continue to take photos and sketch the rest in my home studio.

During the wedding, guests can come up to the illustration station, have a look at how everyone’s sketches look(that’s the fun part!) and take their sketches at the end of the night.

Can we customise the paper to suit my wedding theme / colour?

Absolutely, and it makes such a difference to the finished result.

If you have existing images like a logo, monogram or pre-designed graphics, send them through and I’ll have them pre-printed onto the sketch paper before the event.

If you’d like something designed from scratch, depending on my availability, I can create a custom layout or border design for your sketch cards at an additional cost. Just share your brief, your wedding colours and any references you love and we’ll go from there.

What is your booking and cancellation policy?

To secure your event date, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking. Given the demand for live illustration in Melbourne, dates are reserved on a first come first served basis and cannot be held without a deposit.

The remaining balance is due two weeks prior to the wedding date.

For cancellations made within 2 weeks of the event, no refund will be issued and remaining payment needs to pay in full. If you need to reschedule, get in touch as early as possible and I’ll do my best to find an alternative date that works.

In the rare event that I need to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances, a full refund will be processed within 7 days. I take every booking seriously and this situation is one I work very hard to avoid.

How much is it to hire you at our wedding?

Package starts from $1,820 AUD (incl. GST), get in touch with me via email hello@candyngart.com to receive my package info.
