Hi! We’re Clean Carats – Alex, Sam, and our fluffy feline assistant, Hershey.
Clean Carats began as a passion project and remains an intentionally small, hands-on studio. Sam & I spend our time working side by side at our workbench scattered with gold dust and diamonds, doing what we love.
As admirers of the stars and the allure of the universe, Sam & I are known for weaving celestial magic into our rings. Each piece is intimately designed and handcrafted by our two pairs of hands – alchemising recycled precious metals, Aotearoa river gold, and carefully curated gemstones into one-of-a-kind jewels.
From the moment we first began, focusing on sustainability and ethical practices has always been at the heart of Clean Carats. Our gold is largely recycled, or alluvial – local gold that flows through the rivers in the South Island collected through low-impact operations. Our diamonds and sapphires are sourced directly from mainly family run mines and artisanal gem cutters whose ideologies align with ours. Through these tight-knit relationships, we are able to handpick unique stones that other makers don’t have access to – which is why a lot of our rings feature sapphires and diamonds rarely seen elsewhere.
We release a limited collection of magical one-of-a-kind rings a few times a year, and specialise in making personal and considered bespoke engagement and wedding rings for clients close to home in New Zealand, Australia, and all over the world.
