“Neil and I had been together for six years, so when he ironed a shirt for a picnic, I knew something was up!” says Anne of the day that Neil proposed. Married on Anne’s parent’s property in south-east Queensland, their day had it all – a DIY driving range, spiders, a fabulous photographer by way of Aparat Photography plus a whole lot of cow poo. “My hands had blisters on them as I had spent six hours with my mum shovelling cow poop the weekend before the wedding”, says Anne who spent every other waking moment building signs and furniture from recycled wood.
Of her gown, designed by Fashion by Farina, Anne tells us, “My wedding dress nearly didn’t make it to the big day after getting stuck in the security scanner at the airport coming back from Sydney. It then got stuck in the overhead locker. Then it went through its final test on the wedding day. A giant Huntsman spider crawled into the netting on the skirt but luckily a mate squished it, saving me but not the dress which still bares the remnants. I also spilt a glass of red down it whilst becoming a little too enthusiastic with my dancing. After a good dry clean, I am happy to say it’s still in one piece (just!)”
The success of their relaxed, country themed wedding was very much thanks to some very clever friends and family (including Anne’s dad who helped with their invites) but it wouldn’t have been possible without a few talented and passionate vendors including Blue Banana Catering, Deliberately Delicious and Aladdins Party Hire to name a few. But at the end of it all, being married just meant that Anne and Neil would continue to do what they’d always done, living their lives as partners in crime – forever.
