Sit down and make yourselves comfortable because these images of Anna and Dave’s wedding by Mitch Pohl are as morish as a packet of pretzels. Their secret? Selecting some of our favourite vendors including hair and makeup artist Liv Lundelius, floral stylists Jardine Botanic and stationery designers The Distillery, all human beings that are pretty great at what they do.
On the morning of their wedding day, while we were still in bed, Anna had gathered at her parent’s place to start the celebrations early. She tells us, “one tradition we did follow before heading off to the church, was the passing of a red scarf around the waist of the bride (as a symbol of fertility) and forming the sign of a cross on her head while incense is burning (to bless the bride and protect her against the evil eye).”
After some ouzo, she made her way to St Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Church – the same church where her parents were married, by the same priest, some 31 years ago. “The idea of being able to celebrate our love with our families in the same sacred place was incredibly special”, says Dave who was pleased to have his entire family there, all the way from Ireland.
Later they celebrated at Porteno, a popular Argentinian restaurant in Sydney. “We simply wanted a happy feast of good food and wine, and to dance the night away with our family and friends (including an impressive unexpected dance with a glass of whiskey on his head, from the father of the bride!) Porteno was the perfect place for such a feast, and such a beautiful space too…” says Anna, who having been sick only days before was glad she was able to sink her teeth into a fine selection of meat and cheese.
