Hitched in the Hinterland at Fins at Plantation House, George and Charlie’s wedding was a beautiful blend of elegance, easy-going energy, and thoughtful contributions from loved ones, all tied together with vibrant, fresh green hues. There’s a lot to love about this one, but the newlyweds agree that moment they locked eyes at the aisle would have to be a highlight. “After all the build-up, planning, and anticipation, that moment felt completely surreal,” they explain. “It was emotional, grounding, and overwhelming in the best way, and we both felt the weight and joy of what the day truly meant.”

If you’d like to take a lush tropical leaf out of this couple’s book, then you’re in luck. Below, the newlyweds take us behind the scenes, sharing what sold them on their venue, Fins at Plantation House, the bride’s two-piece Bo & Luca showstopper, and what made their photographer, Wilde Visual, such a standout.

THE VENUE

Fins at Plantation House was actually the first and only venue we visited. I had heard good things through friends of friends, so booked a site visit a few weeks after we got engaged. We both remember pulling up to the venue, being greeted by Juliette with a warm smile, and turning to each other. Without saying a word, we knew this was the place we wanted to get married. It had the perfect mix of being surrounded by nature while still feeling elegant and refined. We were looking for something that felt remote and intimate, but still close enough to accommodate guests, and Fins ticked every box. There’s something really special about the way it sits in the hinterland, and the atmosphere just felt right.”

THE DRESS

“The Poppy gown from Bo & Luca was actually the very first dress I ever tried on. Not long after we got engaged, my sister stumbled across their Instagram, and I booked an appointment just for fun with Mum. . . .As soon as I walked in, I fell in love with the intricate detailing, the boho feel of the gown, and the gorgeous owner, Shannon. At the time, I thought it was way too early to commit, so I told myself I’d think about it. A few months later, I was in Sydney and spent a whole day trying on more traditional dresses… but none of them felt like me. As soon as I got back, I booked another fitting at Bo & Luca, slipped back into the Poppy gown and knew that was it.”

FAVE DETAILS

“One of the most special details was definitely the wedding cake. It was made by my beautiful family friend, Karen. In the days leading up to the wedding, Mum, Karen, her daughter (and one of my bridesmaids/best friends) Beth, and I spent hours in the kitchen together – baking all the cake layers, whipping up 120 cupcakes, and watching Karen bring it all to life with her decorating magic (all with champagne to wash it down of course!). Karen is incredibly special to my family, and she created a cake that felt so personal – something that truly reflected George and me.”

DIY

“George put in some serious effort crafting our seating chart sign from a slab of wood. What made it even more special was that he worked on it alongside his brother Harry, who’s a carpenter, so it felt like a true family collaboration. The finished piece added a beautifully personal, rustic touch to the day. I also spent a Saturday night in the lead-up to the day with my good friend Lize, wrapping 120 chocolate bars with personalised name tags for our wedding favours. It was a simple but thoughtful detail we loved being able to add ourselves.”

STANDOUT VENDORS

“Honestly, we feel so lucky because every vendor was amazing! Jess (Wilde Visual), our beautiful photographer, was definitely a standout. She made us feel so comfortable from the get-go. She was such a vibe to be around and captured our day perfectly.”
