Throwback Thursday is upon us, and today we’ve got an absolute killer wedding to share from our print archives. Idyllic doesn’t even cut it, people. The vibe for Alex and Sarah’s Sunshine Coast wedding was “boho, relaxed with earthy warm tones”, and the incredible Bonnie Jenkins caught all the stunning details on camera. Scroll on to see all the magic for yourself…
THE VENUE “We looked at quite a few venues on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. We were originally thinking of finding a space where we could put a teepee up, as we really liked the idea of an outdoor wedding. After looking into it we realised it would be a lot cheaper to hire a community hall instead of a teepee, and hope that the weather would be good enough to have the reception outside. We decided on Obi Obi Hall because the hall was so beautiful inside, that if the wedding had to be inside I wouldn’t have minded. I also loved the cows surrounding the property and the large firepit which we thought would be a great vibe.”
THE DRESS “I wanted something different – not a typical wedding dress. My style isn’t very girly, and I’m most comfortable wearing crop tops and pants. I decided I wanted to go for a boho look, and saw an ad on instagram for Zimmermann– it was my perfect outfit! I loved the cut of the top, the beautiful sleeves, and the flowy skirt.”
A TOUCH OF TRADITION “We did a Chinese Tea ceremony before the wedding ceremony, which involved us serving tea to each of our family to show our respect and gratitude. This was a really nice intimate moment and we really enjoyed this time we had to spend with family. Alex and I are also Christian, so we were married by our Pastor, who did a kind of short sermon and prayed over our marriage.”
STANDOUT VENDOR “Bonnie Jenkins was amazing – not only was she an amazing photographer, but she was also super fun and supportive. The photoshoot with her was so relaxed and easy! We also really appreciated our makeup artist, Leigh McCoy. She was super professional and did an amazing job.”
A WORD OF ADVICE “We would really recommend hiring a reliable on-the-day coordinator, and writing a thorough run sheet that includes every detail leading up to the day, and on the day.”
